Real Estate Rip-Offs in Hua Hin - Same old Same Old

Post by faq2mfh »

My wife and I bought a house in Hua Hin in 98. A German guy and his Thai wife lawyer had one of the only real-estate places and were basically in everything. Their names were [Edited]. Anyway, they ran some major scams before disappearing. I was very lucky and after the dust settled I only got scammed for about 20,000baht. I bought my house by registering a Thai company bla bla bla and the 20k was for book keeping for 2-years. That was just before they vanished. By then I knew there was some going on and I was happy to play along and give them 20k for book keeping. At the same time we visited the proper authorities and did away with the registered company which was in the process or being transferred to a relative of [Edited].
[Edited] had a reasonably big staff and most of them knew what was going on. Yet, after they disappeared members of their staff started re-appearing at different busineses here and there. What's more; Over a couple of years I visited [Edited]'s office at least 20 times. Every time I visited the cops were there drinking coffee and basically hanging out . It took me a long time to connect the dots...

So you got your house ok, you then gave the estate agent 20k to do your tax returns instead of making sure they were done properly using an accountancy firm.
Is that it ?

Wasn't an estate agent it was a lawyer. She was actually a real Thai lawyer.

So your situation was a 'legal profession rip-off' then. Sorry to hear you lost money, but as you say you got off lightly compared to many.

I could have easily lost my house as it was nothing for this lawyer to forge paper work. Her and her husband sold land they didn't even own and even produced fake chanots.
I guess my point is and I rarely have one is that nothing changes in terms of ripping off Farangs. There are no goverment agenceies, at least that I know of that protect foreign investors.

So the person you chose to take care of all the legal issues was the estate agents wife
Anyone reading this, my advice would be to use an independant law firm, no offence faq2mfh but I think this goes without saying anyway.

The wife was a registered Thai lawyer. The only one in Hua Hin at that time.

I'm sorry, but this is just another of the rash of trolls that is taking over HHAD at the moment. The OP says he bought the house in '98 and paid fees for the next two years - the story is 8 to 10 years old!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet again :troll:

Maybe a trip up to Bangkok was in order then

You're either a troll or acted foolishly. Jim's probably right.

The OP is not a troll.

He is raising an old story which those of us who have been around a while will remember well, especially the people who lost some serious money to these con merchants.

Hi Malc,

Did buyers really use the agents wife for their legal protection ?

It's so blantantly obvious that no one can say a negative thing about a land or house deal in HHAD!! Pathetic!

Not at all - say what you like, just don't use real names to slander people/businesses while hiding behind a pseudonym else those less than desirable operators will come after HHAD - not the poster, its happened before!

i think the point being made here is that it shouldnt be allowed to happen, anywhere else in the world there are rules and regs about how agents and lawyers can act, here they can get away with pretty much anything if the customer allows them to.
there is no governing body hanging over them to take away their lisence and protect the consumer.
