Why does Firefox go into seclusion every now and again?
Overload on my machine? Only got 256 RAM
It's there in the background but won't respond to a click on the icon but will respond to a prompt from a mailed address
Baffled. Checked it with 'whats running' and changed priority to high but to no avail

Firstly make sure you have the latest version (3.0.4), earlier versions of Firefox suffered memory leakage problems. Click 'help' then 'about Firefox'.
Secondly press ctrl+alt+del then 'task manager' then 'processes' to see what is using all of your memory and end the process.
Addons checked and now running normally after deleting a few
