BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) — Police say the ex-wife of ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has returned to Thailand where she has been convicted of tax evasion.
Immigration police chief Lt. Gen. Chatchawal Suksomjit says Pojaman Shinawatra arrived from Hong Kong at Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok late Friday.
Pojaman was convicted on July 31 of evading millions of dollars in taxes and sentenced to three years in prison. She was released on bail and left the country the same day after filing an appeal.
She and Thaksin divorced in Hong Kong on Nov. 14.
Arisman Pongraengrong, a Thaksin ally, says Pojaman intends to "settle legal and financial matters."
Thaksin's ex-wife returns
Mrs Thaksin
Has she been stayed of her previous conviction? Does she not have an arest warrant out on her? I am a little confused.
Re: Mrs Thaksin
Absolutely. Sentenced to three years and skipped bail.canthai wrote:Has she been stayed of her previous conviction? Does she not have an arest warrant out on her? I am a little confused.
This country is a joke.
OK. What were conditions of the bail?
5 million or thereabouts and I assume a report to a police station every now and then - by the way legally the reporting has to be every 12 days. Prosecution have 84 days to charge and prosecute - something close to that, believe me.
So, the lady and her husband were allowed to exit Thailand and attend The Olympics in China. Needless to say, they didn't come back to Thailand.
The rest is history. The UK revoking their visas whilst out of the the UK etc etc.
And now the dragon walks into her country and isn't arrested? Give me a break.

According to her representative she intends to appear in court to register her appeal.
When you consider that the case against Pojaman involved taxation on a share transaction in 1997, I can imagine that she might have some chance of success.
It would be very hard to claim that the case wasn’t politically motivated.
