Road Signs

Post by Terry »

Those of you who have managed to find our place, know that the lack of road signs makes it a little tricky!

Well - finally got things sorted with the Amphur and we have now got 8 of those nice black & white - Thai & English road signs.

Problem is 5 of the 8 are in the wrong place :cuss:

Seems when left to the responsible Thai person to 'site' the damn things they like to route my customers around the countryside instead of the most direct route.

I spent most of Saturday afternoon bol#$*king the twat who put them up and am told that hey will all be corrected by Tuesday (tomorrow) :guns:

I'll believe it when I see it - meanwhile - apologies to those who have been directed to the back of beyond somewhere near 'Black Mountain' and the Byepass. :thumb:

Yep T.I.T.

Terry

cant you do what Thai people usually do? Get a sheet of thick plastic, paint your sign on it, then stick your sign over another handy one like the "Beware Railway Crossing" or "Cliff round this corner" sign.....

or do what the Thai builders down 102 do and nick the Immigration Service signs....

Very pleased to report that according to Mrs.T the road signs are all now in the correct position. :D

When I get back from Doha I will of course check them out AGAIN!

So - no excuses any more - we've always been on the map - we just needed signposting - done!

Also - we finally got round to getting the small salas moved down and closer to the water - so - you can now dangle a rod and sit in the shade with a few cool ones!

Sounds great - just make sure there's plenty of chilled red wine in stock at the end of next week and we'll call round

Chilled red wine? I was always under the impression that red was best at room temp while white was best chilled... :P

Barrys, are you English by chance? I've noticed a few Brits like their beer warm (well, room temp) and their red wine cold... :D

To me that's back-asswards!

Sorry, :offtopic:

Happy to hear you got your signs sorted Terry!

Dear god man, chilled! didn't you learn anything whilst serving in the Raj.

Your wine should be cheekily teased to boudoir temprature and served atop a silver salver by a small wizzened underling.

After he has delivered your vintage he will (and rightly so) suggest you beat him to within an inch of his life for doubting that you are by far the superior being.

Your wine is then enjoyed on the shaded side of the veranda before a light evenings chukka... 8)

Randy,

As usual, you addressed the subject much more eloquently than I!

Mr. Farang and Sir Cornhole

For your edification!

In my past life, I knew a 'Master of Wine' who regularly went off to Europe between the months of August and November, on a fully expensed annual 'binge' to 'taste' wine for certain reputable U.K. supermarkets and food chains. i.e. he got paid for being ratarsed! :rasta:

Needless to say his wine cellar was something that most of us mere mortals dream about. Full of 'samples' donated by wine the growers of France, Germany, Spain & Austria.

He not only rarely 'spat it out' but also would recommend chilling certain red wines. 8)

Indeed, if you ever manage to get hold of the annually published 'Hugh Johnson's Wine Guide' - (A bible for the real wine enthusiast) - you can read that, frankly it does not matter whether you drink red wine chilled or at a room temperature. As is often said in Thailand - It's up to yoooooooo. :sun:

Obviously there are certain wines which it would be fair to say that it would be sacrilegious to drink chilled - for example a Beaune Premier Crus. However the chances of finding a bottle of that rouge nectar, at a price that would not give one a heart attack is somewhat slim.

Now - most so called 'quality' bottled wine in Thailand is hideously expensive. Also, since one may not have a copy of Hugh Johnsons book handy, when you are scouring the shelves of 'Villa Supermarket', to verify if your intended purchase is either feline urine or something esoteric; it often makes sense to buy some of the reasonably priced 'New World' boxed beverages from South Africa, Australia or South America.

In Thailand's climate it is very refreshing to 'chill' the red falling down nectar - you also get to drink more of it that way

So - you see it's not such a crime to chill your wine after all :naughty:

B.T. W. we can sell it - non chilled - as well. :thumb:

MODS - this might be an idea for a new thread

To Chill or not to Chill - that is the question.

Not quite back to topic just yet... yes, you can chill some very light red wines and rose's, but a dry red wine such as a Cabernet, Merlot, or Zinfandel, should never be chilled!

chilled white wine?, great :thumb:

chilled red wine? :( , not for me, just a personal choice i hasten to add, but each to his own

why i'm commenting on the temperature of wine on a thread titled 'road signs' is anybodies guess, especially as there is a current thread titled 'wine' :D
