Try this for diarhoea... diaria... diarrhoea..

Post by Vital Spark »

I've spent the last few days running (very fast) to the loo. No great stomach cramps, but a dull ache.

I don't like to use the over-the-counter stuff, as I prefer the body to sort itself out and get rid of the problem. Anyway, this morning, after three dashes to the loo, I'd had enough! I Googled herbal remedies and found quite a few that recommended this:

1 tsp of turmeric in a glass of water.

Luckily Mr.VS has oodles of spices in the cupboard, so I tried it. It's now the end of the day, and since I took the 'medicine' I haven't had any problems. No pain, no dashes to the loo. Apparently, turmeric is a good antiseptic for the digestive system.

You can buy it easily here in any wet market - it's a yellow powder and it's also used as a dye - so don't spill it on your clothes...

Im glad you solved the problem, no one likes a runny tush.

I usually find a large cork does the trick. A word of warning though, make sure you are alone in a wet room when removing it as when the pressure is released you become capable of artexing a very large wall within milliseconds...

Francois: I can't envisage any problems using it on a kid. It's a natural rhizome. It actually tastes quite nice, and if you tell them it's orange juice they'll probably drink it without a problem.

Thought about the cork method Mr.C, but was worried about the collateral damage...

I really feel so much better. :)

Sound advice as usual from V.S.

Another little recommendation.

Several years ago whilst in a state of expungement (Probably powerful enough to launch a Saturn V rocket) - Mrs.T came to the rescue with a small plastic bottle of - wait for it -

FISHING PILLS !

Yes folks that's their name - most chinese pharmacies sell them in an orange coloured box with black writing
Main ingredients are Creosote & Belladonna!!!!!!!!!!

They work within 20 - 30 minutes giving a result that is tighter than a fishes ar5e - which of course is water tight.

Come in handy small bottles = great for when you are travelling

I'll have to try and remember that remedy. My wife grows turmeric outside and occasionally uses it in her cooking.
She says that it's "kamin" or "cumin" in Thai (I'm not sure of her pronounciation), so don't get it mixed up with cumin if you're asking for it at a market. Both turmeric and cumin are used extensively in Indian cookery.
Found it - it's kamin:

I would be a bit careful about taking anything with Belladonna in it. Probably no problem in small doses, but just Google it to see some of the side effects.

Fishing pills

Brings back some memories .50 clicks out to sea on wooden boat with the toilet hanging off the back, squat type, and a bad stomach in 2m swell is not fun
We always had a box of these in the first aid kit .Used to dish them out as a placebo for seasickness and that worked as well .Or maybe it REALLY worked .Wouldn't know ,don't get seasick :D

During Victorian times women used belladonna in their make up to make their faces whiter.

It was known as Deadly Nightshade and ended up making a real mess of their skin...

You got it BB

That and the occasional soaking from the rinse bucket sloshing water up in the air and then trying to get your wetsuit back on whilst boucing around the place like a pinball .Followed by heading up front to deal with 20 seasick, shivering bangkok Thais only to get the 30 second warning again 10 minutes later

RC

The Victorian women also ingested belladonna as well.
It made the black part of the eye larger, which they felt made them look more attractive. :?

As for the trots, I have used VS's Turmeric together with charcoal tablets. Clears it up in no time.

Yes Tumeric is good as an internal antisceptic.

Cumin will 'settle' your stomach - A little Ginger aids digestion..

A little Morphine is good for the more painful type of stomach upset..that Thai medicine (can't remember the name) a Black liquid comes in a little bottle still has Morphine in it.

As a child in Yorkshire we were given 'Kaolin & morphine', you could buy it without prescription

I take a lot of Morphine based tablets and liquid Morphine anyway, knocks me out sometimes. I wander around in a daze most of the time.
Cumin helps to keep the Morph down.
