From what I can gather his house was broken into yesterday, he woke up and the burglar knifed him to death.

SJ - Sadly these types of incidents are going to increase all over as the local economy falls and more local chancers see farangs as easy targets because "they're all rich". Don't expect anything in the way of help or sympathy from the "police".Sabai Jai wrote: The Missus and I were looking at Khao Tao in January - thinking what a nice peaceful place it looked.
It is a very small community - someone will know about this but it always seems to take outside pressure to make the BIB do anything

Does anyone know if this took place on a development?
That's very true and will apply to everywhere in Thailand. Crime is rising and will do so in all places, would be interesting to get hold of the crime stats in Thailand for the first three months of 2009 and compare to 2008/2007. Economic misery and people losing lobs = rising crime in any society, east or west, doesn't matter. Values go out of the window when desperation interjects through present situation, many fail to see how fragile societies values are, especially in a country that has no social security net.buksida wrote:SJ - Sadly these types of incidents are going to increase all over as the local economy falls and more local chancers see farangs as easy targets because "they're all rich".
