Darts Night

Post by sy04nap »

What night is the darts league in Hua Hin?
I am hoping to be living there before September and am a keen darts player who will be looking for a game.

They have a league in Hua Hin and local area that is played on Tuesday nights.
Was also an open competition every Friday at the Bamboo Grove Bar (other side of the Railway Tracks), but not sure if that is still on.

Would suggest that you contact John or Barry that are in the Johnny Walker Bar in Soi Selekam as I know that they run two teams from there.
Hope that helps.

I know that a lot of you guys are darts experts... so is there anywhere a novice can go to play darts with someone without having to drag down a team or lose money on the game. I've played in my younger years and really enjoy the game (301 or 501, I don't know what you play here) but I wouldn't be very good so I would hesitate to join a team and make them lose all the time.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

HH, if you just want to play social like that, the competition night up at Bamboo Grove would be great for you. I went up when I was over a couple of years ago and was a great night. Not everyone who was there played in the league teams and all in all was a great night.
As I said previously I am not sure whether they are still on, just ask at one of the bars in town that are in the league, someone is bound to know.

As far as I know Bamboo Grove is not open currently, although I did hear that a new man was taking over. There are two other open darts nights though where they play a variety of games that are not necessarily dependent on ability. Friday nights has moved to Dicks Office in Soi 80, while there is a Sunday night game at Scandic Bar in Cha Am - they lay on a free minibus from Dicks Office to take those from Hua Hin - check out the Balloon Chasers guide in AWOL for more info on that.
The Tuesday night darts league is the one run by Barry and Jill from JWs; many teams struggle to get enough for a team on occasions and the standard for most doesn't matter - it is more of a social thing with a slight competitive edge for most. Normally though you would play for a team whose home bar is one you frequent reasonably often, so the best bet is to find a bar in the league you are comfortable with first and then ask about playing. The main thing the captains/bar owners want is someone they can rely on to turn up every week! The standard of player varies enormously so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

sy04nap,

Your welcome at JWs anytime, let us know when your coming and will make sure that Barry (Darts nut!) or i am around. I play sometimes as a sub for our girls team, they are more fun and certainley prettier than the blokes!
