The controversial 3m x 6m cargo container on the seabed off Chon Buri's Sattahip district does not contain human skeletons inside, marine expert Thorn Thamrongnawasawat said on Thursday.
The photographs showing the container's interior reveal that no human remains are found inside it after a group of divers inserted a small camera through a hole about 60 centimetres wide, Dr Thorn said.
Although three sharks were found sleeping inside the container, he had not concluded whether or not it might be filled with toxic substances.
A mud sample was also collected for further studies, he said.
The committee responsible for investigating the mysterious containers will meet to discuss the findings again, he said.
Previously, relatives of many victims of the Black May uprising in 1992 wanted the containers to be salvaged to see if they contain the remains of their missing loved ones

Now I await the story to start circulating that the sharks ate everyone who was in there. There could be drugs in there as well, a unit dumped as the Thai Coast Guard approached. They could be very happy sharks! We'll have to see if they're wearing shades in the photos.

Think of the body shape of a shark .If the body is 45-50 cm wide then how long is it ? I have freed a number of sharks as long as me from fish traps with entryways smaller than 60 cm .Nurse sharks seem happy to sit still but the various reef sharks are normally active and agitated when in a trap .Many local species of reef fish would investigate a container this size as they do wrecks making them cornered prey for predators as they will hang close to the hole and bolt inside when predators approach .The predators then follow, and ,if they are smart, wait inside for next time .

This is a Thai media thing again concerning language and meaning perhaps. They said "60cm wide", the hole could also be 1/2 meter high. Also not specific if they made the hole or it was already there. The devil in the details. Pete

I've been researching some things SF since this thread started again today, concerning forensics. Focusing specifically upon bone deterioration in sea water. Found nothing specific except a few experts who stated that beneath 9,000 feet, bone disappears in weeks. That's why no remains have been found with explorations of the Titanic site. They didn't give a sliding scale upwards concerning depth, temperature and deterioration time however.
The rest of the info I read (and it was a lot) kept going back to "encrustation", similar to why we still find dinosaur bones from millions of years ago.
I was hoping to find something saying a human cadaver in sea water for 17 years (1992) would be totally gone even if not disturbed, just like a steel ISO container would be. Pete

All mod cons., including a staircase!
The previous photo showing the "hole" appears to be about the correct size for a "window type" air con, so perhaps it was being used as an office.

All of the mysterious sunken containers off Chon Buri's Sattahip district must be examined to clear suspicions they might contain remains of victims of Black May 1992, Khunying Porntip Rojanasunant, director of the Central Institute of Forensic Science, said on Friday.
Khunying Porntip said although an inspection of the first container showed it contained neither skeletal remains nor toxic waste, as rumoured, it was still necessary to examine the others reported to have been seen in the same general area.
Representatives of the navy and other agencies would be invited to a meeting to prepare a plan to send a dive team to examine other containers believed to lie on the seabed near Samaesarn Bay.
The navy, which has authority over the area, had said the inspection team could go ahead and look for other containers, believed to be about 90km offshore, without waiting until the end of the monsoon season, she said.
Khunying Porntip said the seven million baht budgeted for the inspection could be scaled down.
It was possible the first container had belonged to the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) and had been accidentally dropped into the sea while a gas pipeline was being laid.
The container appeared to have modified for use as an office and was fitted with a staircase.

May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
If this is an ISO container, they're only 8'6" in height. Perhaps the staircase was built by really tiny sea trolls using it for an apartment?

I think from the beginning local fisherman have been saying there is a 'group' of units down there. Don't know if the Navy has actually located them yet. Petespitfire wrote:Still a few twists and turns left in this story. I noticed in Nereus's post that they mentioned looking for "more containers" 90 km of the coast. Bizarre! Where did that come from?
