ZAMBIAN ARRESTED WITH COCAINE AT SUVARNABHUMI AIRPORT
SAMUT PRAKARN, June 28 – Thai police and customs officials arrested a Zambian national for possession of about one kilogramme of cocaine at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Sunday.
Identified as Mabvuto Francis Ngoma, he was en route to the northern province of Chiang Mai.
Officials acted on an investigation report that there would be drugs smuggled from Bangladesh.
One hundred and thirty bars of a suspicious substance were found in a secret pocket of his luggage. A test showed that it was cocaine and he was charged with possessing illegal drugs for selling, according to Somchai Poolsavasdi, deputy director general of the Customs Department.
The authorities estimated that 1.15 kilogrammes of cocaine can net three million baht in Thai street sales.
The customs department has seized 11.95 kilogrammes of illegal drugs in 10 incidents so far this year at Suvarnabhumi Airport. (TNA)

Well and truely nicked there! What's odd is that, from what I can gather from the news reports, on the BBC also, he was busted 'on the way in', not the usual 'on way the out' as it (the story) suggests that the drugs were from Bangladesh.
A complete idiot to try that at swampy, less risky to just drive up there. I don't know how the "Royal Pardon" thing works or whether they let the African nationals get away with it as easy as some Europeans have done in the past but that's the "Bangkok Hilton" for sure for a long time and rightly so.
There is an ironic twist to the statement "Our hospitality here in thailand is legendary" when it come to most matters.

Hi Spitfire,
On the 5th of December the kings birthday he will give a pardon to a few foreign prisoners and they can walk free.
After 4 years in a Thai jail the U.K has an agreement to transfer prisoners but they still must serve half or two thirds of there sentence depending on how much time served allready so you could still do 30 years in a U.k jail where if some one from here gets done they will do around 10 years so this is not very popular.
I will give you an example, a lad i know from my home town called Johnathon Wheeler has been banged up in there for 15 years allready he got 100 years then it was reduced to 50 years but the embassy tried to encourage him to take the U.K exchange but he wants to hold out for a pardon, he told the embassy official ( shove it up your arse) because in most other countrys once exchanged they are set free in months.
If you google Johnathan Wheeler thailand, you can find some stuff on his case.
Another lad from two miles away (Holbury) Alan Kiernan (we went to the same school) got caught about 3 years a go with a load of pills and has got a 50 year sentence, i feel sorry for his dad who is really struggling with this issue.
There is a website Foreign prisoner support service that does give more info on the pardon issue.
The bottom line is if you are stupid enough to traffic hard drugs you will get bitten by the
big tiger
Kendo.
