What Meat In Thailand?

Post by BaaBaa. »

Most Thai dishes are interchangeable with your preffered meat,
eg: Tom Yam Goong/Gai, Grapow Gai/Moo, Laab Gai/Moo etc

Some dishes just suit certain meats, my preference being Tom Yam Goong, Grapow Moo, Gairng Kiew Wan Gai for example.

I generally tend to avoid beef in Thai restaurants but it would probably be my first choice on a Roast back home.

So, what meat do you generally opt for?

I generally go Chicken as it suits most dishes.

Given the choice, and a decent cut is available, it has to be beef every time.

Good question...

Pork here, mince it, fry it, bbq it, grill it, stew it, noodle it..bring on the pig!

Same here but I meant more in a standard Thai restaurant.

I'll edit the poll Title.

It's still beef. When I said the right cut, I meant decent quality beef rather than lumps of grizzle.

I pretty much only eat seafood when I'm in Thailand. I know it's a bit unusual but I actually don't like meat, I'm not a vegetarian by any kind of moral conviction, I just don't like it in the same way that I don't like turnips either.
I think it was the result of being made to eat school dinners with nasty gristly meat followed by ten years of military catering.
About the only time I eat it is if it's in a burger at a barbeque, or if I'm given it by someone and I don't want to offend them by refusing to eat it.

You don't know what your missing, top notch drunk food.

The American Rib co near McDonalds does a brilliant Burger, it's my new farang food delivery of choice, the Chilli with bits of steak is good.

I thought it was a rip off joint until the bloke over the road recommended it and give me a menu, it's great when your pining for Farang food, not overly expensive either.

ten years of military catering
I've experienced my share of military catering - don't think I've ever been offered a turnip. However, I have noticed in gardens down my street that there is a definite imbalance of turnips to swedes. Probably on a ratio of 3/4 to 1.

 Sorry, being silly :offtopic:

Yes - they don't call me Cheap Charlie for nothing. :D

Seriously, you must have seen them - little trolleys with portable BBQs and huge stings of little round suasages.

I've seen the 10 Baht? sausages that look good, like an english sausage, until you bite into them and realise it's the good old Isaan sausage. Image
