I occasionally see an obituary highlighted on HHAD and think to myself that I really couldn't care less, but here's a chap who deserves a mention.

This article was written (not very well IMHO, but never mind) by Michael Parkinson, but Waterhouse himself was an immense figure in British journalism and theatre.

He was a great writer; his column was the only reason I ever used to read the Daily Mail for many years.

I agree, we shared a pet hate, but he started the AAAA, Association for the Annihilation of the Aberrant Apostrophe. e.g. greengrocers' signs advertising apple's, banana's plum's. Often seen on this site, Thai's.
He was a great "grumpy old man".
