Yep, these muppets keep causing the problems that they are constantly griping about which is a shattered economy, I don't think they give a rats arse about tourism though or what the west thinks.

They just can't help themselves and keep pressing that red button, agree that they couldn't give a toss about tourism or the west and it will be sad to them have another crap "high" season through their own reprehensible behaviour, however, maybe it's no more than what they deserve. The people who will really suffer from this kind of thing is your average Thai in the service industry that really needs a job at the moment after the battering it has already sustained.

Is there some kind of logic behind PAD getting involved in the temple border dispute ? They're tarnishing their image further with the violence, but they've already got what they wanted with the ousting of the pro-Thaksin government.

So why cause more trouble ? Am I missing something or is it just Thai logic ?

^ I know what you mean, maybe they have been emboldened by their initial success and are know just flexing their muscles to see where it goes, maybe they have some sort of delusion of grandeur and think they have carte blanche to do what they want and this is a cause to justify their existance and keep them current etc, in the news as the champions of action, sickly I know, but would fit in with the TV soap opera model. Suppose you never know here.

Only thing I can think of is draw attention to an "international conflict". Thus trying to re-unite people against an outside "enemy". Happened a lot in history where a nation could not handle its domestic problems.

Could well be, also when you watch the news coverage they're leading with the PAD incident and not giving as much coverage to some old ladies waving red clappy-hands. Stealing the limelight away from Thaksin perhaps ? Bit of a coincidence PAD timed it for today!!

Just watched the Beeb and they had nice, peaceful shots of the Reds (all dressed in red) smiling and waving those silly clappy things, followed by a shot of angry young men at the temple (not one of them wearing yellow) hurling anything they can get their hands on at riot police.

Those watching outside Thailand, with no idea of the politics behind the two groups, would instantly think that the 'yellows' are thugs and the 'reds' are nice guys.

Ahh, the power of the media to paint whatever picture they're told...

I'm also totally confused, SJ, and quite frankly I'm fed up with the whole circus of politics here. Let the children play, it doesn't affect me but they've really got to understand how it affects the image of this lovely country abroad.
