Tesco Lotus

Post by dtaai-maai »

Shopping in Lotus at lunchtime for the first time in weeks. The place was heaving (on a Thursday? ). Took me 5 minutes to find a parking place (underground, which I hate), mostly spent stuck behind people trying to avoid having to walk an extra 20 metres.

Took 2 trolleys back because the wheels had a squint. 3rd time still unlucky, but I couldn't be bothered to fight my way back through the hordes yet again. Might as well have put the sodding thing on my shoulder and carried it.

They were out of half what we wanted - pork pastrami, decent ground coffee, bacon, decent bread, etc.

Oh, and the the tannoy was way too loud, as usual, and being operated by a lady who really needed to lie down in a dark room for half an hour. Which was I did, after we abandoned Lotus and went to Villa (an oasis of calm be comparison, with Rolls Royce trolleys).

I was so frustrated I forgot to preview, so you'll just have to work your way round all the mistakes...

Tesco in Pranburi is about the same size as the one in HH, and much less crowded.

Wherever possible we avoid Tesco like the plague for routine shopping. Most of their Thai operation is overpriced and generally does not cater very well for 'Farang delights'

When we stock up for our restaurant we generally use Makro for all the 'utilitarian' stuff. Cheaper and a lot better organised.

For special little things, it's Villa or Minimarket on Soi 88

Veggies / herbs - if we can't grow it ourselves, it's down the local market - fresher and cheaper.

We DO have one or two special suppliers - but that would be telling

Oh, and by the way - we have plentiful supplies of freshwater fish!

Phil you’ve big shoulders you can handle it, but if not you can always come down here for a Salt Beef Sandwich on Rye Bread with Gherkins and Mustard washed down with a nice pint of Stowford Press West country Cider tomorrow (Friday) that’ll keep you going for a while.
