Aree Indian restaurant

Post by JW »

I know this restaurant has been mentioned before but i think it deserves a mention in its own right!

Few of us went to Cha Am last week for a few beers and to meet a friend there. I asked him what he though and he replied "the dogs boxxxxxxxs" (english slang which means fantastic)

We ordered

Mutton Dupiaza
Chicken Massala
Allo Sag
Naan
Rice
Raita etc

The food was absolutely great - big chunks of meat in both dishes, fantastic sauces ... as good as i have had anywhere outside of Chester le street! Great price also - about 600 baht.

Its easy to find in soi Long Beach, seriously anyone who enjoys great food should give it a try!

I will be going again very soon. If anyone is up for a curry night we could get 1 going, I have a 7 seater that would be ideal for the ride!!

Never thought of Chester Le Street as a mecca for curry enthusiasts, always thought it was more pie, mushy peas and pickled gherkins

I have just spoken to some regular users of AREE and they now consider that for Chicken dishes S & S in Poonsuk Road are better and greater value.

Soi Long Beach is towards the north end of beach road - really easy to find. If you wanna go give me a buzz!

Condoking - some of the best Indians up north mate! I guess we have decent pies too! Same goes, next time your here let me know - maybe a game at Springfield and off for a curry after!

Thought I'd try this restauran, seeing the many posts about it. Tried an Indian Meal in Cha Am a few yewars ago, and it was really not very good at all. Its a shame I could not remember the name of the Restaurant as this the same one.

Anyway, we had already generated some interest with friens, so we went ahead with the meal, with a warning and an advance apology to our friends.

We ordered a lot, some was quite good,(the Fish Masala and Naan), most was easily tolerable but only distantly resembled or tasted as it should, some was truly dissappointing (Yellow rice - I know why they call it Yellow rice and not Saffron Rice - it is Thai rice, laced with some kind of radioactive bright yellow isotope). No basmati rice in sight, which is a shame. I enjoy Thai rice, but Basmati completements Indian food so well.

The most surprising thing we noticed - everything you ordered, you have the choice of not spicy, mild, medium or spicy. This question was posed for every dish, even Vinadaloo and Raita!!!

We ordered Spicy Vindaloo (and did request to make it really spicy), the intensity was similar to the Korma that we ordered (which of course we ordered mild).

Would I go again, yes, maybe. But I certainly wouldn't recommend it, neither would I consider it anything like real Indian Food, either from India, Englan or elsewhere.

Quite a shame, was very excited to hear the many rumours of a great India Meal available in Cha Am.

Anyway, not a real complaint, just thought I'd share my experience too.

I went there a few months ago in my desperate attempt to find anything that remotely resembles the great "British Curry". Being away from England for a good 4-5 years, I naturally miss our national dish....

It was a while ago so can't remember what I ordered, but it wasn't outstanding, and I've never felt the urge to go back there. The staff were rude to my dearest as well. I remember feeling dissappointed after hearing good things about the restuarant.

For me, S&S are currently the best indian here. I was suprised to read the bad stories regarding S&S in other posts, despite the plastic chairs etc, I've enjoyed the curries there.

That was my experience there as well, it really was a reasonable meal for the cost but it was nothing like the sort of curry that you get in the UK.
