This doesn't belong in Foo but I put it here as it's really too depressing to put in a section that will get more visibility. Seldom do you see these kind of reports outside of the Thai language papers. A bummer to end the day with, and reminds one this paradise we think we live in isn't that much different than any other place in the world these days. God rest his soul and damn to hell those who did it. Pete

Given the recent thread about 'begging', I can't help but think this poor kid pocketed some money, or didn't work hard enough, or tried to run away and blow the whistle in order to get back to his home, wherever that may be in-country or out.
In the west we see these things, and many times done by drugged up crazy parents or guardians who simply don't want their child. Maybe naive, but I hope Thailand people haven't sunk to that point, especially with their history of devotion to children.
I can't get this one out of my mind tonight, thinking this was some poor sold or stolen kid who was enslaved and became dispensable for one reason or another.
So, what do you do with a beggar kid/flower seller in the market or bar area? Snarl them away, or give them some coins? This is a great kanumdrum as we really can't do anything at all about pre/post giving them that coin. Unless one really wants to get involved risking their life destroying the slave networks.
We think perhaps the Thai authorities have a squad devoted to these things, similar to a 'special victims unit' in the West. Maybe they do, but way underfunded and staffed I imagine.
I ramble and feel better for it, but I still don't have any solution. P.

At least him being a nutter would explain why he is so keen to get his taxi back, as it seems a very strange thing to be concerned about if you were expecting to go to jail for a few decades.
