Where Can I Buy Pest Control Chemicals for My Garden

Post by K2OWN »

Rather than be ripped off by one of the many companies in the Hua Hin Area offering over priced Pest Control Services for my Garden, does anyone know where I can buy the Chemicals to do the job properly myself. Tried Home Pro but did not have much joy trying to explain what I wanted as I was offered a can of Insect Spray for the house.
Many Thanks in Advance

Go to the paint section in Home Pro and you will find bottles of very potent insecticides. It's in a blue and white bottle with only Thai writing on it. Remember to suit up when you use it as it's nasty stuff.
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

Thank you Hobbiecat I will go down to Home-Pro and have a look also thank you for the advice re- Suitng Up

Crazy 88 Your neighbour did get a good price. What size of land? Did They live on a Project. I have been quoted a lot more than that. It appears to me that for Pest Control if you are a Farang couple double pricing strikes again..

On the right going down road past Kao Tao. Look out for wood mill on left soon after several little shops set back with a big tree in front on road. You will see bags of fertiliser and in there shelves of all sorts of goodies at local prices. Yes there is a prob with getting instructions on how to use in English. I had to resort to web and my chemical knowledge.

Where is the quote from? Have you tried the place in Bo Fai? About 100m on the right hand side up Soi 6.

Just what are these so-called pests you need to control in your garden and what level of control do you intend to undertake?

We've talked about this on here before. The going rate everywhere seems to be between 7-9K Baht per year, which includes a yearly filling of the in-foundation gas pipes under the house to prevent termites.

However the service is for insects, not large centipedes and the like I think the OP is describing. Not for rats, snakes, snails etc., either. That's a whole different deal and chemical substance, and an entirely different price structure as well IMO.

I think the concentrated sprayer liquid the OP will find in shops is for insects only.

The service we use puts 2 capfuls into about a 10 liter sprayer so it is potent stuff and gets rid of ants, cockroaches, spiders etc., but we still have frogs, toads, snails crawling around after it is applied. Pete

Pete,

Treating the house is one thing but the outdoors is a whole new ball game.
I would be really cautious about any treatments serviced by any companies in Thailand for both indoors and out.
Training in the good handling practice of anything toxic is rare and the Thais will usually overdose. Why use 1ml/ ltr? if we use 2,3 or more it's got to be better so the reasoning goes. And then there are the shonky boys who will water down to the point where they are just out to rob you.

I used the following company in the design process of our home in Perth. The"treatment"included no chemicals what so ever in the building process- just good common sense was used in the construction and material selection. The emphasized risk was for termites by the way. 12 years on and we have had no issues .

The site has links to DIY treatments also.

Those reddish centipede things are supposed to deliver quite a nasty sting when trodden on, and get into houses often via drains etc. Much as I dislike them I would also be very reluctant to use - or trust - any spray or other blanket chemical treatments strong enough to kill them. Partly because as already pointed out the Thai way is to overdo it. But mainly because of the effect on other bugs which aren't a problem, and may even be beneficial to the garden and environment.
The difficulty of course is finding an alternative. Thais hate those things as well, and there might be a simple solution to target them only. Finding it is the problem. But there's an ant killer liquid made by 'Nippon' which is available in the UK and is very effective on (obviously) ants. Comes in a tiny tube and sets in a gel when squeezed out. I've used it in the house. The ants eat it, collect it up, and take it back to the nest, where it kills the rest off. Might be worth a try on the centipedes. Takes time and several repeat applications, but you know where you've put the stuff and would see almost straight away if it attracts the little blighters.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

The common or garden thai variety are the devil incarnate! Kill them with any weapon that comes to hand, not sprays, they don't work, just attack it with blunt objects.

When dead it will still move, hit it again!

You can try a place like Do My Own Pest Control. They sell a lot of the active ingredient chemicals you see in the professional grade stuff.

Cheers! :D
