Road accidents claimed the lives of 30 people on Sunday, taking the holiday death toll to 309 over the first six days, most involving motorcycles, Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senneam said on Monday.
Mr Thaworn said there were 358 accidents on Sunday, causing 30 deaths and 378 injuries.
There had been 3,289 accidents in the period from Dec 29 to Sunday. Altogether 309 people had been killed and 3,563 others injured during the period, he said.
The province with the highest number of accidents is Chiang Mai, with 110, Chiang Mai and Chanthaburi had the most deaths - 11 each. The most injuries have been in Nakhon Si Thammarath (128). The only province with no accidents or deaths is Yasothon.

Thoughts: I'm surprised that speeding wasn't the cause of more accidents, I drove back from the south yesterday and the traffic was very heavy. Still you could cruise along at a sensible 90-100kph. The problems came when the assholes that wanted to do 140 tried weaving in and out of the gap you're supposed to leave from the car in front. Of course this causes everyone to brake and a few to slam into each other ... insurance companies will be busy this month!

I say this every year but figures are no where to be found, or they don't want to release them.
Have them publish any other four, random six day periods that are not special holiday periods, but do include 2 periods when school is out.
I think we may see the New Year and Songkran holiday accident rate is not much higher, if at all, than these random periods when trucks are in full flow on the highways. Also, when school is out the rate will be higher especially for motorcycles.
From now until Songkran we will again be bombarded by the anti-drinking establishment trying to get everything banned based upon these New Year statistics.
