Was looking at a time chart and surprised to see that all of Burma is 30 minutes behind Thailand. Didn't know that. Do all visa runners set their watches back? Pete
Was nearly caught out once on a run with a few others. Drinking in a bar on the Burmese side, it suddenly occurred to us that there was this time difference and we were in danger of missing the office in Ranong - looking at a wall clock, not our watches. We hurried back rather than spend a night there.
In actual fact we would have been OK as the Thais would have opened the office up for us despite the opening/closing hours. However, this was when you got your stamps at the main office, not the pier. I'm not sure if the same facility would exist now - probably would.
Interesting, do similar time differences also apply to Laos and Cambodia, or do you have to go further East?
Does the 30 minute time difference apply to the whole of Burma? Obviously at the Golden Triangle there is a lot of Thailand to the West of Burma at the border crossing.
Click on that link BB, it shows all. Yes, it's all of Burma but look at the islands off Thailand/Burma, they're India time. Gets even more confusing with Nepal etc., and some western Indian Ocean islands. If you back space and just open the entire world site, look at the date line and some Pacific islands. Minestrone soup! Pete
