Expensive tires at Kosol Tire Service Hua-Hin

Post by huahincharlie »

For the benefit of others who are looking to replace their tyres, I went to Kosol recently and took with me a list of the tyres available at the Toyota dealership in Cha-Am.

As an example, the Michelin TA at Cha-Am Toyota was 2,240 but at Kosol was over 2,800.

The manager looked slightly disgruntled when I declined and said I'd got a better price.

Almost everything is a little overpriced in Hua Hin compared with other places in Thailand.

That said I got my tyres in the Cockpit shop on Petchkasem, 215/45/R17 Korean made for 2,500 a corner (the Yoko's were double) ... didn't check prices elsewhere though.

Just past 7/11 by soi 56 is a place that does wheels. A lot of people take an option,as I did, when they buy a new car to have custom wheels leaving this place with a load of the standard issues. My friend picked up a set of michelins for a 4wd navara @ 900 baht per corner which seems a pretty sweet deal.

I always thought Kosol were pretty good as they've repaired a couple of punctures for me at about 60 baht a time. :D

Recently though I managed to really destroy a tyre when I went over a big bolt sticking up from an old post :guns: :guns:

I went along to Kosol and they quoted me 5100 THB for one new tyre  I politely declined their generous offer.

A good Thai friend of mine took me to a little place about three miles this side of Pranburi and everything was sorted out for 1500 THB :P

Now I honestly don't know if we're talking apples with apples here, but I do know my jeeps going OK 8)

After my recent experience with Kosol in Hua Hin I would highly recommend to avoid this place.

I agree that they have the most high prices on mags and tyres in Hua Hin but at the same time their service is really crap. Last week after installing 4 new mags on my truck I start to experience heavy vibration at the speed over 100 km/h. I came back to them and ask to re-check balancing. They removed all wheels, checked them and said balancing is 100% ok and there is a problem with the truck suspension. Next day I visited B-Quick and described them a problem. After 30 mins I got perfectly balancing wheels and smoothly driving truck. So, there are 2 possible problems with Kosol - the equipment that they use is not properly calibrated or they just don't know how to use it.

^ Weird, I bought my last tires from Kosol after comparing prices between them and Cockpit (where I always bought before) and Kosol was a bit cheaper and no problems with balance or installation. Guess I was lucky. There's a new young kid (early 20's, probably son of the owner) managing Cockpit that speaks English but is an absolute ass. Very rude to me when I asked him anything. That's the only reason I left there and decided to try Kosol after 8 years of using Cockpit.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

If someone needs reliable wheels seller with adequate prices then try this shop - http://www.lpautomag.com The website is in Thai but very easy to navigate. There is email address and phone numbers on the bottom of the page, owner speaks good English. I ordered my Lenso mags from him and everything went perfect. For example - I've been quoted 6100-6200 Baht per mag at few shops in Bkk and 6500 Baht in Kosol Hua Hin. Their price was 5500 minus 5% discount and free (next day after payment!) delivery to my home in Hua Hin and comparing to all other places they had everything in stock. The only difficult moment was to explain to the driver where Hua Hin is.. as he passed it and called me only from Pranbury.
