Travelling to Hua Hin

Post by hawk3164 »

I am going to be visiting Hua Hin in April and I understand there is no longer any air transportation to the City.

So I am considering taking the train. This would be the one with the private compartment accommodations.

I would like to get the opinion of those who have traveled by train from Hua Hin to Bkk . Any suggestions would be appreciated and if you could tell me what it costs to go round trip

The alternate way would be for me to rent a car and driver and go that fashion.

Whatever you could provide would be appreciated.

Thanks

It's quite a pleasant trip from Bangkok to Hua Hin by train (in my opinion)... if you have the time.

Try this link to the State Rail time table:

http://www.railway.co.th/English/Time_HTML.asp

As far as I know it is up to date, and both the train options and fares are indicated.

Enjoy the ride! :D

depends how many people...I personally like the pick up from airport service if I am going straight to Hua Hin (dont really like Bangkok unless shopping) with no hassle of going to train station and waiting for the train.

Hawk

The train trip is good and enjoyable if you have the time.

However, if you are knackered after the flight the taxi option is the best and its only 2.5 hours as the roads have improved and you bypass BK.

With the train you firstly have a hike through BK in a taxi to get to the station. Trains are also renowned for not being on time.

Take your pick

See you in April

Car/taxi has to be the best (though obviously not cheapest) option from the airport IMHO. I'm also heading there in April, and we'll certainly be travelling by road - pay 2000 baht for airport pick-up down to Hua Hin.

When in April? If close to Songkran I'd have also thought the trains would be chaotic.....

Anyway, however you get down - enjoy the trip!

Oh yes I forgot

Think you are coming at Songkran time so it will be chaotic (and I mean Thai chaotic) Hawk. Best bet is a taxi as PH says. Only 2000 and no hassle

One point though, airport taxis tend to be a damn site more expensive. From memory they were trying to charge around the 4000-4500 Baht level inside the airport, taxis outside were around the 3000-3500 level (correct me if I'm wrong guys)..... When I'm quoting 2000, this is a HH based car/taxi.

What about your hotel?

They surely offer a pick up service?

I have never paid more than 2K from Swampi to HH door to door

Forgot Songkran in HH?? Bloody hell Richard - I'm hoping this is an age issue rather than the HH Songkran is forgettable!

This will be my first in HH, so I was hoping for a memorable time (for the right reasons) after a couple of bad experiences in LOS.

In all fairness however, those "bad experiences" were whilst working (rather than "holiday-ing"), and being a little green...... Pattaya being the closest resort to my base in Rayong..... and then BK from Ratchaburi. Not the quietest of places around April!!

I'd like to think I'm a little more street-wise these days... a few years later, but then again

Who do you use Richard? Local (HH) or Bangkok?

You did mention re: your daughters' visit on another thread I remember (sorry)!

As I'm also visiting at the same time ....... AND when I take the lead in the S14, 6N AND F1 leagues, perhaps we should meet up for you to provide me with the copious amounts of beer that I will have won by this point?

Travelling to HuaHin

Post by margaretcarnes »

As Richard rightly says - getting straight to the train after a long flight can be too much. I always have a night or two in Bangkok first, then enjoy the train trip regardless of any delays (which I've never really had a problem with from Bangkok. Delays tend to be worse when travelling the other way.)
I wouldn't consider travelling by road at all around Songran. Train has got to be much more safe IMO, although for a couple of days before the event they will be pretty full.
BTW you won't need - or get - a private (sleeper) compartment for the Bangkok/HuaHin leg, which is only about 4.5 hours.
Fares range from less than 100 baht up to about 700 or so I think, depending on class etc and there's no need to get a return ticket. You really don't need to be commited to a specific return time, and as we all know plans can so easily change!
