This one has been floating around since yesterday afternoon. It is so horrendous that I've had a problem coming to grips with it. Regardless of what the man had done, to purposely execute his children in that way is something I can't comprehend. Wakes you up and reminds you how cheap life is here. Pete

Cop, family massacred on highway

Four members of a police family were shot dead and another seriously wounded early on Thursday morning on the western outer ring road in Pathum Thani's Sam Khok district.
Killed were Pol Lt Rachan Panwong, 37, of Bang Bua Thong district police station, his wife Nawarat, 33, their five-year-old daughter Yanisa and four-year-old son Jirayu. Their daughter Ravisara, 6, was shot in the left collar bone and left arm but survived.
Pol Lt-Col Sanoh Thaboon, a duty officer of Sam Khok district police station, said the murder occurred about 5am on Highway 9 (western ring road) between kilometre markers 64 and 65 in tambon Bang Toey of Pathum Thani's Sam Khok district.
He said the family was travelling in a Toyota Fortuner car. Police who examined the scene believed Pol Lt Rachan stopped his vehicle for a talk after being followed by at least two men in another car. Police believe the same men opened fire on the family .
Pol Lt Rachan's body was found lying face down about 10 metres from his vehicle. He was shot in the head. Mrs Nawarat was found about 40m from the road. She was shot in the left eye.
In the back seat of the car, police found the bodies of Yanisa, who was shot in the neck, and Jirayu, who was shot in the left temple.
Also found in the car was another girl, Ravisara, who was seriously injured. She was rushed to Pathum Thani hospital.
Wareerat Nimanong, 45, who looked after the children for Pol Lt Rachan and his wife, said they and their son Jirayu left their home on March 23 in Bang Bua Thong district to visit Pol Lt Rachan's hometown in Lampang and to take their two daughters, Yanisa and Ravisara, back to Pathum Thani.
They were on the way back from Lampang when the attack occurred.
Pol Maj-Gen Methi Kusalasang, the Pathum Thani police chief, said he suspected a personal feud might be the motive. Pol Lt Rachan had many wives, he said.

Sickening, to say the least. Not sure just what relevance that last line comment by the Police Chief has?
But regardless of the motive, it is very concerning that there are scum in this country that would do this to little kids.
I often wonder if some of these attacks are related to "road rage". The way some of these ignorant pricks drive is enough to melt the patience of Job. I am not known for my cool temper, but on the road I make a conscious effort to restrain myself and drive in a defensive manner, giving way, where in the West the situation would probably not arise. Most of the time it works, but sometimes, for any number of reasons, my patience is exceeded and I react to being treated like an idiot. But one thing I will not do; is stop and get out of the car. Firearms are readily available in this country, and the Police themselves have demonstrated numerous times that they consider they have the right to use them indiscriminately.
Not of much use to the poor little kids, but I hope that the Police apprehend the perpetrators.

Yes, a shocking crime indeed.
I'm obviously speculating, but I'm left wondering what you would have to be involved in for someone to kill your entire family like that. Perhaps it would have to be some type of high level organised crime.

The police have today arrested an ex policeman who has admitted to the multiple murders.
The trial and execution may well be over in a week.

Well it turns out our poor victim policeman was corrupt, was assisting a fugitive on the run charged with murder, and got his family killed as a result. As one comentator points out - whats a copper doing driving round with all that bling bling?
Another sad and shabby day for the Thai MIBS.
Its sad the kids were involved, but what sort of father would allow a wanted murderer to babysit them?

Ms Wareerat said the officer usually carried valuables worth hundreds of thousands of baht with him.
They included a gold necklace, a gold ring and a diamond-studded Rolex watch.
The items were missing when police arrived at the scene.
Pol Col Wichian Rattithiwapanich, Sam Khok police chief, said the gunman must have been acquainted with the family.
The killer might have pursued Pol Lt Rachan and signalled to him to pull over. The officer might have got out of his car and talked to the killer before he and his family members were shot, Pol Col Wichian said.
Police are gathering evidence and tracking down the gunman and the mastermind behind the murder
A source said the police had ruled out robbery as a motive and believed the murder could be linked to infidelity.
He said Pol Lt Rachan had a mistress who had paid for his car and other valuables.
Nothing like prejudging a case is there? At least in LOS they exercise some freedom and speculation so unlike the present situation in Oz where no one says anything because of privacy including naming the arrested and when the court artists' resemblance is broadcast on Telly it is pixellated out, talk about ludicrous! The more recent offering in Vic courtesy of Commissioner Overland is for a "dark tall offender" (ie: Somali/Ethiopian refoo ??) of which there are many to choose from.
