Out of town bar/restaurant areas

Post by Rob c »

Hello,

Are there any out of the town centre areas with bars? We're staying at the Marriott in June & usually end up drinking around the Bintabaht/Selakam area etc.

Just wondered where the expats/people in the know, head to. I have searched the site but haven't been able to find anything, yes I am a computer div!

Not bothered what type of bar, my wife, son & me drink in all sorts of places.

Just wanted to try something different, within walking distance of the marriott, if there is such a place?

Also, where's the best Korean BBQ in town?

Ok, last one, where's the best street food, that isn't the night market?

Cheers

To be honest, I was wondering if there was another out of town soi with bars & simple Thai food, rather than anything else.

Not really looking for posh food/restaurants like lets sea etc, more street food, thai restaurants, cow pad, som tam, you know what I mean?

Roast dinners, fish & chips, american restaurants, pasta, pizza etc, seem to be mentioned more than anything else.

My Mrs is Thai, we live in the UK, so the above falang food won't do for her, we eat stuff like that all the time, also, those posts go back a while & things do seem to change monthly sometimes in los, true? :D

Come on, be gentle with me!

Rob,

There are plenty of restaurants as you describe hidden within this Feeding Time Forum. My personal knowledge is 2 years old now, so things have probably changed. I've previously recommended Khun Oy, across the railway track on Soi 94 and Grandmas Papaya Salad on the Naebkehardt Road at Chomsin Road (Soi 55).

I don't even know if the above are still in business.

Another that used to get good reviews was Mr Burger 1, 2 and 3, which I believe were on Canal Road.

As I said, have a slow read through, and you will find what you are looking for.

Also, if any information I've given is incorrect, I'm sure people will be quick to let me know :D :duck:

Try the Grand night market Rob for simple outdoor Thai food. Or - way out of walking distance but worth a bus there and taxi back - a trip to ChaAm. If you go late afternoon, get off the bus at the main intersection on Petkhasem in ChaAm, and stroll down the main road towards the beach, there are plenty of Barbecue stalls and other places to stop off for a drink. Turn left at the end of the road along the beach front - yet more eateries and bars right along to the end of Beach Rd.

Try Soi 80 or Soi 94 both have a number of eateries.

Another place to try is around the railway station or along the railway line itself both Lek Lek and Kim's are good so is Chang Sawang on the corner by the railway crossing on Soi 88

Bar life in Soi 8O, just before the main cross roads on the left are you're walking into town. Loads of good restaurants near the railway station and down the railway road.

Bearing in mind what Rob said, I would not recommend Khun Oy and Burger 3. Both are now too focused, for my taste, to the westerner food. However Burger 3 have a decent som tam and larb gai/moo. Isan barbecued chicken is not bad as well. But prices are now for westerners...
