Water Shortage in Hua Hin?

Post by PeteC »

I'm getting vibes that the situation is worse this year than it has been in the past, is that true?

It reminds me of a past life in Pattaya where you would never see water trucks arriving at the big hotels, but they would have plenty of water and the houses and small businesses on the same and nearby sois would have nothing 20 out of 24 hours. Yes, it can put them out of business if customers begin to check out because they can't shower, but it really did appear they had special deals, bigger pipes and/or the authorities simply diverted flow to these hotels.

Perhaps that now goes on in Hua Hin as well and one of the reasons so many residents are complaining about lack of flow?

Do you know where the municipal water comes from and if a reservoir, has anyone gone to look at it's condition? Pete

I think the situation is pretty bad here. We're totally out now, water wise, as the tank has run dry at home - don't know the capacity, but it's large enough for the two of us for a good few days.
Normally it fills up overnight, but that obviously hasn't been happening lately, we've missed it and carried on regardless. I managed to get a shower last night and have just checked the tank - there won't be one today.
I've got a horrible feeling that this will continue until Songkran (the 13th) when there obviously must be masses of water for everyone to waste. I hope I'm wrong.

Yep water here at Samorphong is also very weak but we are getting a little. Not enough pressure to fill the tank but a little to fill large plastic bin to have thai style showers :D

I've noticed temporary outages but not for long. I have two 4000 liter underground tanks which get nearly emptied daily with the big garden to water in this hot weather and we haven't had to order any truckloads yet.

I drove by the main reservoir (just south of the flyover) a few days ago and it was about half of it's normal full level. There may be others though that I don't know about.

You should be able to get your local water tankers to fill up a 2,000 litre tank for around 140 Baht, or their whole 6,000 litre load if the bigger trucks for around 380 Baht.

That's what two different guys do it for to our customers up the Pala-U Road, 2 km's past Mongkol driving range, so they have a fair old run diesel wise, so maybe cheaper if you're near Takiab flyover fill point or the fill point at back of wasteland next to Barry's Victoria Restaurant.

They pay 11 Baht/1000 litres.

That's about a one day supply for me this time of year... 380 x 30 days = 11,400 per month!

My monthly bill from the municipal water company is around 1000 baht. If they cut me off, I'll have to let the garden die!

We had our landlord call the tessaban water supply. They came the following day and filled our tank. So far this has happened twice. No bin issued but we signed for it so it will probably be on our next bin. But we don't know for how long this can carry on.

I am at Hin Nam Sai Suay Apt. Hotel
saw the water pumper here this afternoon.
The swimming pool was down 6 inches this morning
I noticed.

Now the bldg has brownish water in the toilet
and the sink.

Also was a smell of maybe (chlorine)?
at the showers by the pool.
Why take a shower in chlorinated
water to wash off the chlorine from the pool?

The hotel is getting fuller everyday.
Water shortage for the water festival.

Hmmmm this is not good.

I was at the water authority on Friday they said there was a problem with the pipe from Pranburi and would be fixed by 3pm. My neighbor called later and they said that evening. Never got water Friday, Another thai neighbor called and they now say it will not be fixed till Monday. TIT..... Had a truck fill my tank with some brownish water. Hope we have water for Songkran.

Don't know how many times I've heard the excuse of the Pranburi pipework, but probably a few times a year.
That could be the case, of course, but I tend to think they're rationing or switching it off.
Where you live and the resovoir you get water from makes a difference. Sister-in-law, for instance, has no problem but is in another part of town.

We've had no water for a week and a half now but I'm used to it as it happens every year in the dry season.

HHF - I know where you're coming from as far as maintaining a garden is concerned. I have about 700 square meters to look after and after the first year or two when we were without water frequently I just let everything die once the rain stops as I simply cannot afford to get so much water trucked in.

The good thing is though, more developments are going up all the time so at least we know the situation can only get worse...

I am near railway line a few hundred yards south of soi 102.
Am on mains water, pressure good all day, pressure goes down evening / night time.
Always wondered a bit about that though, surely it would make sense to lower the pressure / consumption when everyone is awake and using water.
