Amazing Rainbow over Hua Hin

This pic is similar to what I saw over Hua Hin today. It's the first time I've seen anything like it.

Apparently it is a sun halo formed by crystallized ice in the atmosphere acting like prisms and refracting light, here is a pic I took (and tweaked) of one seen from Hua Hin in 2007:

I remember the one in 2007 It was May 1st. The chinese were setting off bangers all over town for about an hour and everyone were looking skyward.
Thank you for the practical explanation for this happening.
Will have to try find my photos..taken thru' various lenses of bar-girls sunglasses.. :-))
