Universal Studios - Singapore

Post by PeteC »

Reminded of this while on the Disney thread. I understand it's opened recently on Sentosa. Anyone visited yet? A closer and perhaps less expensive getaway for family and kids than going to Disneyland HK. Pete

I went a couple of months ago. It is bigger and has more "grown up" type rides than Hong Kong. I was disappointed that when I went the roller-coaster was out of action as were several others ( teething problems maybe as only just opened. Lots to look at and some good shows. Still small enough to do in one day. The downside was the popular rides had 10 min + queue even though the park was far from full. It was apparent that some queues could be much longer - not very pleasant in the heat.
I have a fifteen year old and a 3 year old who were both satisfied with Universal.
On a general note though I found Singapore to lack the spirit of Hong Kong and was a boring place to shop ( orchard rd a bit like a huge Paragon).Unless you want expensive designer goods at even higher prices than Bangkok. On a plus though the Zoo is great a good full day out. I also tried the night safari ( also at the zoo). In my opinion it was very boring for the kids as we had to queue for an hour.( bit like UK).
I spent 5 days in Singapore and felt it was quite long enough for us. we stayed in an apartment ( 2 bed) cost approx 9k Baht per night.
The flight ( tiger ) was about 5k return So getting there around the same as Hong Kong but more expensive for accommodation food taxis ( good public transport I believe but could not work out the stops and transfer points so stuck with taxis).
