What happened to the owner of J & B? I forgot his name, which is a shame because he was a great guy. I know the bar changed names, but did it change hands as well?

Barry and Nim sold J&Bs a couple of months ago. Last I heard, they were in BKK, with the long term plan to resettle in Yasathon province raising chicken and pigs. Can't quite see Barry as "Farmer Giles", but there you go.
It's now "The Shed" as the new owner, a Brit named Rod, is a Chelsea fan and that's where the hardcore Chelsea hooligans hang out at their home games.

Good to hear that he is doing well. I'll have to drop in on the Shed when I get back your way.
Incidentally, has there been a lot of shaking up in the bar world there? I check the map occasionally and see a new name, but have a lot of these places changed management as well? I know The Ship became Irish Pub, but Eddie still runs it.

The ship is now the Dubliner and yes Eddie still runs it.
The problem is that we may be taken over by irish bars in hua hin as only two doors away there is a new irish bar that will be called Crawfords.
It seems a shame to me as if this was what i wanted i would have gone to Majorca where every other bar is an Irish bar.
And i cant understand why people who have no links with Ireland decide to open irish bars, why not a Scottish bar or dont the scots have any tradition..
I know Eddie is Irish so fair enough but is this just another chain type bar selling the same commodity as all the others.
If someone out there had some imagination maybe we could enjoy a new concept.

Titanium is a 2-storey bar located between Sukhumvit Road and Larry's Dive, from the article in Mehkong Kurt's latest "rounds", and has a freezer bar upstairs, where the specialty is ice cold vodka in a freezing atmosphere....

I have never seen anything Scottish about the Roadhole but maybe someone out there knows better.
My real point was why do people just try and follow an old format instead of doing something original, the Scottish thing was just a small dig at Ken.
But we all seem to see these bars pop up and yet the owners have no direct links to the theme of these individual bars, ie Celtic bar run by a Swede who probably has no idea where the team play.
In fact last time i saw him he was wearing a Celtic football shirt and looked really out of place, poor guy is a Banker in sweden.

I couldn't agree more....there's a distinct lack of originality in Hua Hin. But who's going to invest what's needed to get any kind of return on the outlay.
If memory serves me right was Celtic not originally opened by a Croatian guy called Tony - he'd worked in a pub in Dublin and got the idea from there? Reminds me of the old jokes about Jack Charlton's Ireland side...all those scouse and cockney accents. And of course Celtic are a Scottish side...in all but name.
