First & last visit to Grand Steak 2, Soi 94. Ripped off.

Post by Tao Farang »

Lived here for 6 years & visit HHAD daily but never felt the need to share an experience here in Hua Hin until tonight.

Thought family & I would try Grand Steak 2, Soi 94 before railway crossing. Menu looked good, nice big clear photo's of dishes and easy to order as menu in English even though can get by in Thai.

2 choices of steak available, local & imported. Clearly marked on menu so pointed to local ribeye at top of page which came with a pepper sauce. Imported steaks at the bottom of the page came without sauce on meal. Waitress asked how I liked it cooked (in English) to which I replied well done.

Food came, ok for 109 Baht, good portion, not cremated enough for me but not a problem, am used to it.

Asked for the bill, noticed they had charged for imported at 200 Baht, which it definitely wasn't.

Asked same waitress over and explained mistake to which she informed me that I had been given & ordered an imported steak. I showed her again the large photo I had earlier planted my finger on which was nowhere near imported steaks but she then decided she couldn't speak English and showed absolutely no interest in resolving their mistake.

Left after being rudely ignored and shown they couldn't care less. Shocking.

Clearly not a mistake but a blatant rip off.

Have had restaurants before here & in the UK so know how customers and the kitchen can make mistakes but absolutely no reasoning with staff with owner watching, also disinterested in customers complaint, so customer beware.

Welcome to the forum Tao Farang, it's just a shame that it wasn't under better circumstances.

Did you escalate the problem beyond just the waitress? It could simply have been her making a mistake, and not wanting to lose face.

In some restaurant i had some experience really worst than yours, ordered a meal, nothing came, the bill came and had to pay for nothing. I waited for 30 min then nothing, just the bill, they said : "sorry we don't understand, you need to pay what you order."

I had no meal at all, not even water. I paid to avoid problems and had a nice pizza few hundreds meters away. I wasn't drunk or anything, a friend was with me, he got his meal and asked me to don't make a problem in the restaurant for a few bahts.

Bet you regret complimenting her on her English skills now

Welcome to the forum, try Terrace90 which is right near there, or Natta nearby in Soi 88, food & steaks are always spot on there.

I'm certinaly not defending the restaurant....but how can you expect quality, or event good "caring" service at a restautant which is offering steak for 109 baht ($3) or event the imported price of 200 baht ($6).

I'd question is it is even beef, but it is it certainly frozen for months, sliced thinly, battered out to look bigger and then burned to a crisp!

Save up for a few days, and go to a resonable steak restaurant anad pay the premium price....it is worth it......less chance of getting poisoned, and/or ripped off too!

Stu-Pot,

I appreciate your comments.

We're lucky to live on a town with so many choices of restaurants catering for all tastes.

SJ is right, Natta's does great steaks as does Sarah Jane's to name but a few. I've yet to visit Terrace90 but it's on the list.

When I'm in BKK I eat steak at the Rib Room Restaurant on the 31st of the Landmark, where you can spoil yourself with proper Australian steak, starting at 1600 Baht for 250g (240 days grain fed) but well worth it.

I believe you get what you pay for but you should also only pay for what you get, unless you're like me on this one occasion or lucky Johan!

Its just one bad experience bro - chalk it up as just that and take your business elsewhere....

Personally I recc El Murphys - great steaks and the in house band truly rocks....best in HH IMHO

some dont like the way the place adds VAT nd service but as the old saying goes beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I tried Grand Steak 2 at Soi 94 once. That was enough to never go back.

Only went there to escape a sudden downpour on my way to dinner. My hopes for the food quality was no higher than 'adequate'. Ordered two items, don't remember what one of them was. The second item was a salad, pictured with tomatoes, cukes, carrots and other such fiber-filled plant matter that I hadn't been eating enough of lately. What I got was a plate of shredded cabbage.

Any business that f's up that big is doing it on purpose. I've been in SE asia long enough to have instantly realized they have zero interest in whitey's business, and complaining would be a waste of time.
