Safety Matting for Playgrounds

Post by Terry »

We are close to completing our new kiddies play area at the Lodge.

I'm looking for a supplier of the rubber safety matting as per the attached photo.
This was taken at Yamsaard School but of course noone knows where the matting came from!

Also - on the rope climing frame you can see some black plastic 'clips' clamping the ropes as they cross.

So - anyone know where I can get the matting and the clips?

Thanks

Hi Terry

Just thought I would let you know that from my experience of setting up childrens playgroung here in OZ. The rubber type matting is not the best surface to put down .Here in OZ we used to put down white sand but this became a problem in public areas do to needles and things getting buried. Then we used recycled car tyres and rubber interlocking matting (as you have shown) But this was found to get very hot for young feet and hands .So we have now gone back to wood chips in most playgrounds again

Hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestion AM

I also thought of wood chippings but was put off by the thought of termites, bugs etc

Hi again Terry

With wood chips you will be safe re white ants (termites) as they dont like light or sound (movement ) In OZ our wood chips are also treated.Definately would stay away from rubber as it gets extremely hot .As its in your park area sand would most probably been fine just need to rake it from time to time

There's always grass as well Terry. Sod is not expensive here. I would use the golf course type variety and water/nitrogen it regularly. I have a big swing/slide/rope/horizontal bars etc., in my yard which is frequented daily by a few kids and the grass holds up well. It's become thicker over time with proper watering and feeding, and makes a good soft mat if someone should fall. However, this type of grass needs a lot of sun. Full shade regularly and it will die. Thanks again AM & Pete

Sand

I'm not too keen on it as sharp objects can be hidden in it and cause injury if fallen upon.

Grass

This would be ok, but the location of the playground IS in a shady area

So it's still looking like the rubber matting............

Artificial grass is yet another option Terry. Here are some sources in Bangkok. Pete

Thanks Pete & JD

I've investigated and they are just what I want - BUT - they are hellish expensive and even If I fit myself, we are talking of around THB 200,000 for the area I need

Methinks I'll stick to sand and ensure that my staff regularly rake & check :banghead:

Thanks anyway

How close to completion are you? I've got 2 grand daughters who would love to test drive the play if it's ready before mid-November. The right answer will help me to plan a day's fishing for my son-in-law and me.

Hi BB

Attached are some photos taken about two weeks ago. Now - allowing for Thai time - it is conceivable that the project will be finished at any time soon. :banghead:

There are some swings and also a sandpit

Outstanding - final painting - knotting of ropes - sand base.

I will be back at the lodge 8/9 November for sure - maybe a day or two earlier and if it's NOT finished then some folk will be feeling my boot up their a*s*s!!!!

Right answer?

Yes, looking good. I would be grateful if you could either post here, or PM me when it's finished. I will then plan a 'family' trip to the fishing lodge.

Mr. Lid

Never mind.
I know that you cannot control the 'inner child' that still lingers inside your being.........

BB

I intend to post here with final pictures when all is done........ 8)
Meanwhile apparantly my two lads have been conducting 'commissioning trials'

As stated previous, I should be at the Lodge from 08/09 November or earlier - getting loads of things ready for the new season and our NEW YEAR's PARTY  .......so will be running around a bit.

So - if you DO decide to pay us a visit - PM me beforehand and I'll make sure I'm there. :D

Don't know if you've got this sorted yet Terry, but these companies specialise in playground products: HERE

Don't forget to post when the playground is open, my boy is just getting into them, and fishing.
