Either some high ranking officials are suffering from extreme paranoia, or something is indeed afoot. :( :? Pete

Sabotage threat 'in the next 20 days'

Former defence official says 'Seals from neighbouring country' poised to launch attacks

Admiral Banawit Kengrian, a former deputy defence permanent secretary, yesterday confirmed a report that armed militia are plotting assassination of leaders and attacks in the capital during the next 20 days.

Bannawit said he had learnt from military intelligence officials that tens of foreign armed militia from a neighbouring country's Seals, with the same capability as the Royal Thai Navy's Seals and the Royal Thai Army's Special War Command or Red Hat, are planning terror strikes.

The report started making its rounds after last week's explosion in Nonthaburi shattered the country's fragile peace. Bannawit said the report was based on facts and militias had infiltrated several spots in Bangkok to commit sabotage.

"This is not a misleading report. Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has admitted that he asked officials to follow these groups and had warned the government about this. Preventive measures are needed to thwart the terror attempt,'' Bannawit said.

Bannawit "tweeted" that people should watch out for two major sabotage strikes within 20 days. Four rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) found near the old headquarters of the opposition Pheu Thai Party could be linked to a Parliament attack.

He added that the secret command centre of former military top brass on Sukhumvit 3 has been closed. This could be because a major operation is in the making.

Democrat Party spokesman Buranat Samutrak said the government would arrest more suspects involved in bomb attacks over the past five months. The attackers have been classified into three groups: the group plotting sabotage at Santirat Withayalai school, the Bhum Jai Thai Party, and the military camp in Chiang Mai; the group linked to the missing weapons from an arms depot in Lop Buri; and trained militia.

The Democrat Party is concerned about planned rallies this month and the possibility demonstrators could instigate violence as in the past.

First Army Region commander Lt-General Udomdet Sitabutr confirmed the reports that ill-intentioned groups were planning attacks.

He called on the public to tip off security officials to prevent rogue elements from striking terror.

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejajiva said the government had been vigilant in response to a statement from Senator Somchai Sawaengkarn that sabotage was planned against basic infrastructure such as power plants. The PM called on the red shirts and the yellow shirts not to violate laws when they stage rallies this month.

Supachai Jaisamut, spokesman for the coalition Bhum Jai Thai Party, yesterday said systematic attempts were being made to bring down the government by undermining confidence and faith in it. He said certain members of the media had been colluding in these efforts.

A Bhum Jai Thai source said a former premier had teamed up with a veteran politician and certain journalists in a bid to bring down the government in a coordinated move.

This part is either bad reporting, or bad planning:

"This is not a misleading report. Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha has admitted that he asked officials to follow these groups and had warned the government about this. Preventive measures are needed to thwart the terror attempt,'' Bannawit said."

If they know who they are and are following them, pick them up! If indeed foreign national commandos, do whatever they do with foreign suspects. If Thais, hold them and question them for the allowed period of time without filing charges. At least these steps would possibly disrupt any plan.

What they're doing now is similar to New York or London allowing the bomb to go off or the assassination attempt to be made before acting. :banghead: Pete

Unless of course the powers that be are happy for a foreign entity to invade? Sounds familiar - something was posted 3/4 months ago along these lines and discounted as I recall.

You would think it would be sensible just to string all available navy ships across the entrance to the Gulf? And to the west down south? Begs the question though just how many craft there are, and also that they must be pretty sure of where any insurgence might come from. Unless of course land borders are also getting the same treatment.
Meanwhile there doesn't seem to have been any news yet on Sundays proposed demos. I watched Al Jazeera for quite a while in the UK and saw no Thai news at all.

O'Rilly.....right....we can file this one in the same drawer as the astrologer/quack scientist tsunami/earthquake warnings I guess.

Just another sad sack of shite flapping his big wide mouth frog mouth, spreading more unfounded scurrulous lies and gossip that journos here lap up like milk without saying "Prove it", and getting another 5 minutes in the sad media spotlight so he doesnt feel all small and unimportant like the sad empty idiotic sundried sack of buffalo crap on legs he is.

I cant help it....maybe it was growing up in a country where we had proper terrorists, not a bunch of clownshoes cornholers being persued Benny Hill stylee by the security service equivalent of the keystone kops in their parp parp car with egg shaped wheels and the doors falling off. Maybe its because when I was growing up this empty head would now be in a small room with a couple of Special Branch crushers playing ping pong with his knackers till he admitted he was a liar or squealed like a stuck piggy while the SecServ bloke sat yawning in the corner with a copy of the Times wondering what 15 across starts with an A third letter E was.

Maybe its because I know what terrorists are and where they are...and the bad boys are all down south.

Now heres Bob with the sport....

I wonder, if this has something to do with it. Today there was a police control (the first I saw in 3 years) on the road to Sam Roi Yod, just when you turn right from the Pranburi - Pak Nam Pran road. They did not control any papers, but they wanted to know where we are going.

Perhaps an invasion at Dolphin Bay?

10 to 1 it's Cambodia given Thaksin's links there. That means if it happens they'll come ashore somewhere over here east of Bangkok. They have to have rocks in their heads though if it's Cambodian government sponsored. They will start a full scale war when/if confirmed.

Having said that, Abahsit is on an unannounced 1 day trip to Burma today. :? Pete

I drove that route to Dolphin Bay yesterday morning between 9 and 10 a.m. returning in the afternoon between 1 and 2 p.m. and I did not see any police. What time did you see them?
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

(Bangkok Post)
The National Security Council has confirmed that a group of red-shirts did train in Cambodia to assassinate high-profile politicians.

"The information released by the Department of Special Investigation about the 11 detained red-shirts confessing that they took part in arms training in the neighbouring country is true," NSC secretary-general Thawil Pliensri said on Tuesday. "But we are not making any accusation against Cambodia."

The 11 suspects, who supported the anti-government movement led by the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), were arrested in Chiang Mai on Oct 2 and are being held without charge under the witness protection programme.

Mr Thawil also the police had transferred to the DSI the case involving the deadly explosion in an apartment in Nonthaburi last Tuesday. Four people died in the acciderntal blast, including the suspected bombmaker,

"There's a possibility the explosion could be politically motivated but we'll have to wait for the DSI to finish the investigation first," he said.

On the Thai-Burma border closure, he said there were many problems at the border and Burma was working on its internal trade regulations and establishing an industrial zone.

"I don't think the construction of an embankment [on the river] is the main reason Burma closed the border," he said.
