There are a bunch up the Pala-U road but I would seriously suggest buying building materials outside of Hua Hin if you want to save money.

Identical bricks/blocks, cement and tiles are several baht cheaper in neighbouring towns, it adds up if you need a few thousand! Have a look at this thread for more info (though it does go off at a tangent in places): http://www.huahinafterdark.com/forum/vi ... 20&t=16275

Others will advise on pools and gardens.

As mentioned earlier, we saved a bundle on a lot of marble and granite in Petchaburi. I don't know the name (it's Thai) but it's on the left (west) side going through Petchaburi just before the hospitals on the other side and they have what looks like a big dollar sign ($) on top of their building. It's probably the biggest stone place in Petchaburi. Bargain, especially if you want something in quantity.

We saved a bunch on lighting fixtures, door hardware, and Australian roof tiles too at a place in Pranburi, but unfortunately it has closed since we built our house. The next best place when we were looking for that type of stuff as well as ceramic tiles and bathroom fixtures was the big home store (Home(something)) on the right (East) side just before going into downtown Tha Yang. There is (or was) a good lumber place in Tha Yang too on the main street if you turn left at the traffic light it was in the first couple of blocks on the left (the yard is in back so not obvious, but has an entrance on the sidewalk).

There was another good lumber place in Petchaburi on the road that V's off to the east just before getting into town. We did buy special wood items like stairway treads, posts, and rails at the lumber yard in north Hua Hin on the west side of Petchkasem road near the hospital and the price was reasonable for items like that that we couldn't find elsewhere.

Also, we contracted for solid teak doors, including a double front door with leaded glass inserts and sidelights, as well as all our built in kitchen and bar cabinetry from big wood companies in Bangkok. There is an area (Bang Pho I think) in the city that is probably a couple of square kilometers of nothing but wood workers. That's where we had our front entry door designed and built. Lots of wooden items can be had there at some of the best rates in central and southern Thailand. The cabinetry was designed and constructed by a huge wood and furniture factory on the outskirts of Bangkok. They actually have a furniture outlet now in Hua Hin on the highway (east side) shortly before Soi 116 and if you are doing a kitchen or bar like I did they will come to your house, measure, design and build to your specs (then deliver and install). We have contact info if you want it.

If you want very high quality kitchen and bathroom fixtures (at a high price) we found that Boon Tavorn had a better selection than HomePro. They are building a store in the north end of Hua Hin but the closest one that we used is in on highway 35 in Samut Songkhram (or Samut Sakhorn) just this side of Bangkok.

For a nursery to obtain plants and garden supplies, we looked extensively from Tha Yang to Pranburi and by far the best is owned by a Thai lady in Pranburi. Her nursery is on the east side of highway 4 just in this end of downtown Pranburi. We saved 50% on all of our plants and planting by using her vs the Hua Hin nurseries. For harder to find plants, like topiary or giant bougainvilleas the best place we found is on the east side of highway 4 just north of Cha-Am (a few hundred meters before the big outlet mall and on the opposite side). If you want phone numbers for these, my wife may still have them so pm me. Again, with all these places, bargain. Don't pay the first price.

Any or all of this may have changed and one of the current builders here can probably give you updated information. We did all this shopping and building between four and six years ago.

yes i expect that price may be higher around an expat area, but what i am really looking for is product and product availability and costs, at least with cost in the Hua Hin area i could possible do better elsewhere once i know what i want.
