Grenade on Bangkok bus kills one, injures eight: police
BANGKOK, November 15, 2010 (AFP) - A grenade thrown onto a minibus in the eastern outskirts of the Thai capital on Monday killed one person and injured eight, police said.
Although Bangkok has been rattled by a number of minor blasts since rallies by anti-government protesters in April and May, it was not clear if the latest incident, at around 5pm (1000 GMT), was politically motivated.
"We still don't know if it was a conflict between students or something else. Someone threw a grenade onto a minibus," Police Lieutenant Colonel Montri Kongjumpa, of eastern Min Buri district's police station, told AFP.
"We're now waiting for the explosive specialists to investigate the scene, but initially there is one person dead and eight injured," he added.

Is this political as in Red vs Yellow, malicious mischief (on the part of gangs), or spawned from Southern Muslim unrest? Someone needs to figure this out! Did no one see the bomb thrower? Were there no cameras (ATMs, traffic cams, security cams) in the vicinity. I think the MIB here need better investigative training.

It was not political, it was just another sad case of tech school wars, or at least looks that way at the moment.
"A man died and a student was injured yesterday when rival vocational students threw a home-made bomb into a minibus in the eastern outskirts of Bangkok.
Witnesses told police a student from an unknown school standing on the median strip on Seri Thai Road threw the bomb through the window as the bus travelled past Soi 87 in Min Buri. They said there was another student, possibly acting as a spotter, near the sidewalk.
Both suspects, who wore part vocational workshop uniforms, fled on a black Yamaha Fino without a licence plate."

As usual here, probably half arsed reporting. Believe me, if a "grenade" was throw into a bus there would be more than one casualty.
Could be anything, but my bet is that it was a large firecracker. I do not know just how big some of them things are, but there are regular explosions around where I am in Bangkok that rattle the windows. They seem to have the same blase attitude to explosives as they have towards electricity.

What's up with that here? My nephew, who has been working as a civil engineer for a few years now got his face slashed while attending school and has about a ten centimeter long ugly scar on one side now. He (and his girlfriend) claim that they did nothing to incite the attack but were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've been around him most of his life and he is a sweet guy and I don't think he would ever be involved in a gang or a school fight as he is totally non-violent. A shame really as an otherwise nice looking lad is scarred for life (probably in more ways than one).tech school wars

These school kids need some discipline IMO, sensitive subject though these days. There's something wrong with them in the head when they just start chucking explosives around in the city center or spraying bullets around when they lose some face. This seems to be a slowly esculating problem that the government/society in general are either unable or simply unwilling to grasp, probably the latter.

Another example of the brats 'out of control' today in The Nation, seems some young guy got killed after being run over by three vehicles whilst being chased by a gang of delinquents 20 strong that set up an impromptu road block and didn't stop for them.
Just WTF is going on?

I can't speak for Thai raised families since I only spend time with my inlaws when in country, but with my first wife (Korean) I saw a lot of families.
Most Korean parents are very lackadaisical with their kids. Many times when visiting our house the kids would throw stuff around, empty cabinets, etc etc with no real discipline from parents.
A few of the kids grew up and ended up in gangs, one in jail for life.
Yes maybe a broad stroke, but again the lack of strong discipline can be a problem.

The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time.

We went there recently. The PC brigade made it clear that it was a definite no to discipline them. It might make them violentSpitfire wrote:A good thrashing is what these little fcukers need.
