Re: Snake Tong
Hi Gunnar, I asked this before and nobody was able to locate one in Thailand. Maybe you could import a few. I bet a lot of HHAD members would buy one from you (I would!).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: Snake Tong
There's a 20 baht shop in Cha-am before the traffic lights on your left if you're coming from Huahin, it's next door to the bank of Ayuddaya.
They sell a cheap plastic thing for picking up rubbish, it could be easily converted into a "snake catcher."

Re: Snake Tong
Snake tongs CAN be purchased in Thailand.
If you believe you'll need one, try this company: http://www.snaketongsthai.com/
All you have to do is to to is call tel.no 080-0809666, put around 1900 Baht into his bank account and wait for the tong to arrive.
By mail.
Easy.

Re: Snake Tong
Thanks Norseman! Those look like good ones too... very impressive how that lady used it in the video, must be an Aussie lass; my wife would never get that close. I don't read Thai, can you tell if the bag used in the video is also available from this company? I didn't see it under products. Have you or do you know anyone who has ordered from them?
I've given my wife the phone number to find out where the company is located. If in Bangkok we may go get it ourselves on our next trip up.

Re: Snake Tong
I believe the company is located somewhere in the Ayudhya area but I have no idea if you can go there and buy their products over the counter.
Last time my wife spoke with one of the salespersons, he just told her to read their internet page, follow their instructions, and that was that!
Instead of using the company I made myself two hooks, but I know a Tong is, by all means, is a much safer tool to use when catching snakes.
I have never seen a professional snake catcher using a tong in Thailand though, only home-made hooks so I guess they think the tongs are too expensive to buy?

My partners brother-in-laws tells me to grab it by the tail, swing it around your head and then walk towards a tree.

Most of the true " Aussie lass`es" that I grew up with would pick it up like Steve has written, but then crack it like a stock whip!hhfarang wrote:Thanks Norseman! My missus called the guy from that snake tong web site. He's in Ayudhya. He is out of them at the moment because of all the snakes in homes due to the flooding. He has ordered more and will send them COD if you are worried about paying up front. I told her to ask about the bag too, but she forgot...

Re: Snake Tong
Probably not to difficult to make a bag using the frame of a swimming pool scoop.I just wonder about what the actual bag is constructed from, as it would not be too hard for a snake to bite through most fabrics.hhfarang wrote:My missus called the guy from that snake tong web site. Re: Snake Tong
Any bag made of cloth will do the trick as long as it's big enough, but not a paper or a plastic bag!Nereus wrote:I just wonder about what the actual bag is constructed from, as it would not be too hard for a snake to bite through most fabrics.
Yes, the snake can bite through it, but the big secret is to keep the snake at the bottom of the bag and prevent it to get out of the bag by putting the bag down on the ground while you block the opening with a tong/hook, then you tie a big knot thus keeping the fangs and snake on a safe distant to your hand.
You may carry the bag with in your hand as long as your grip is above the knot and keeping the bag away from your body.
Or you may simply use the tong to carry it away to freedom or dinner.
Up to you.
