Russian Tourist Stabbed And Robbed By Construction Workers

A Russian tourist was seriously stabbed and robbed when he joined a group of Thai construction workers for a drink when he lost his way back to his hotel late at night in Pattaya.

Pattaya, 3rd January 2011 [PDN]: At approximately 04.00 a.m, Pattaya police investigator Lieutenant General Bricha Samti was notified of a foreign man who had been stabbed with a knife and robbed in a dark soi near the Pattaya Paladium on Second Road.

A police and medical team were dispatched to the scene, where they found the wounded man, Mr Andrey Grishin, a 38-year-old Russian, sitting on a wooden bench screaming for help. He had a serious stab wound which had cut through his shoulder through to the armpit, leaving his arm hanging and bleeding profusely. He was immediately sent to the Pattaya Memorial Hospital.

In spite of his injury, Mr. Grishin was still able to tell the police that he had left his room no. 2204 at the Holiday Inn to take a drink at an entertainment venue. He was not familiar with the streets of Pattaya and on his way back he went along the wrong soi, where he met a group of workers by a construction site who were drinking.

They greeted him and asked him to join them. They gave him a glass of alcoholic drink and as he raised it to say ?cheers? one of the Thai men tried to stab him in the head. Mr.Grishin said he moved quickly to avoid the knife but he was stabbed in the shoulder. After that, the group of about 5 men scattered and ran . At first Mr. Grishin didn?t realize why he had been stabbed, but then he noticed that all his belongings were gone, with nothing left but his tourist guide handbook.

Police immediately carried out a search for the criminals, who were known to be staying close to the construction site where they were working. Once found, the suspects can expect to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

We could devote an entire section to Pattaya crime news unfortunately. :( 10 to 1 the workers were Cambodian, most are there. Pete

Sorry, but he's a fcuking idiot doing what he did. I don't condone what happened but what was he expecting, a grease down and a sheatsu?

Having a drink with construction workers in the Pattaya scum bucket will lead to no good, there or anywhere else, these guys often aren't even Thai, as Prcscct said.

Blithering freaking idiot IMO. Living in La La Land like so many others, stupid.

Maybe you're right Rider, but ignorance of the law and, in this case, the real world, regarding LOS, does not excuse you from the consequences of either, it will eat the cannon fodder for breakfast.

I mentioned on another thread about just how dangerous this country is for the unsuspecting or naive.

 Though man, apologies if it appeared too harsh. :thumb:

The act of walking around a back soi in Pattaya at 4am with a full wallet has to be classified as a suicide attempt!

Yep, I don't think naive or ''green'' comes into it.......... not a bl**dy ounce of common sense and a fair dose of jungle juice there I'm afraid.

Agree that it's a totally wreckless act, very very dangerous no matter what country you're in, and on this occassion it's amazingly lucky lives were not lost.

Never, repeat never drink with Ruskies, its just not worth the risk.

I must admit that I'm a regular reader of Pattaya news sites just out of a curiosity of the bizarre and dangerous behaviour of some of the Farang community. There's never a dull moment!

Yes, they probably stabbed him and stole his money to avoid having to do another round of shots!

Didn't Doc Iain Palin (author of ''Farang'' - great read if you don't know of it) write for the Pattaya News occasionally?
