Do you use a 'Pop-up blocker' in general?

Post by Spitfire »

I'm interested as sometimes I'm surprised how long it takes for a PM to be registered and move from the 'outbox' to the 'sent' area, replies don't matter as it depends what the recieving member is 'up to' so to speak, maybe busy doing/reading something else etc.

For me, a 'pop-up' window appears straight away and I read it regardless, some people are better at this than others (reading PMs swiftish), moderators included.

I'm surprised people don't see this stuff straight away as usually it shows itself in no uncertain terms in the form of a 'pop-up' as soon as it's sent.

As said, replies are at the receiving person's discretion, but you can see that they have read it because it moves from 'outbox' to 'sent' etc, no dramas. Just get perplexed when it sits in the 'outbox' for a while or a week or so.

Yes, before the wise guys  jump in, then I am aware that possibly they don't want to read your PM etc but generally I am conservative with who PMs are sent to, like many others.

Added a poll to be sure.

If you use a Mac you never get 'pop-ups", or any of that other shit I used to suffer with. Once you go mac you never go back.

I always use a PUB SF to stop a load of the crap that appears. I think anyone with any sense does the same.

As to the PM thing, I get a reminder in my e-mail page if there is one, as I, like many other members, don't log into HHAD every day, but do check e-mails daily.

I use a pop-up blocker but also get an email reminder if I have a PM, so as I check the email once a day my answer will never be more than 24 hours away.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I allow pop-ups on HHAD only. Incidentally, the e-mail notification usually arrives about 5 minutes after the pop-up.

I must admit that I don't because it never really occured to me to do so.
Basically I use computers how they come out of the box with the minimum of modification and updates until they stop computing.
I only replaced the last one because it was so old it weighed too much!

I still prefer Susie!   Seriously, I use POB on my computers but allow exceptions to web sites I visit regularly.

When entering a website that usually caters to my requirements for live sports, the following popped up:

Now, someone tell me how I get rid of that mofo.

It's changed to http://atdhe.me/index.html

I use Sopcast myself but http://www.slipstreamtv.blogspot.com/ can be good.

Or http://www.liveonlinefooty.com/ if you're willing to pay £6 a month.

I did, Veetle is the best one on a good day but it's to inconsistent. YES channel on sopcast is the best all rounder, good picture and never lags.

I use the ad block + plugin for firefox. Works great and real easy to set up exceptions for sites.
