I haven't listened to all of it yet, but I was amazed to hear Voranai from the Bangkok Post speak. I always enjoy reading his articles and assumed he was almost fluent in English because of his use of the English language in his articles and the fact that he'd spent some time being educated in the UK. I was surprised at his bad pronunciation - all the common but annoying little mistakes that we try to iron out from first year students at our university. As for the other Thai guy - I guess he'd had a Sangsom or two before they went on air....

Apologies, I should have been listening to what they had to say, instead of how they said it. Isn't it interesting how Thais always blame the sex industry on the American GIs who were here during the Vietnam War (the usual pointing of fingers elsewhere). There were a heck of a lot of GIs in Suffolk during the latter part of the Second World War but it didn't turn that little rural (and relatively poor) area into the sex hot spot of England.

And the Thai male doing short time sex industry still massively outweighs the Farang, not to mention the Mia Noi "Arrangement".

That's not what a few of my late aunt's used to say once they'd had a few too many of their favourite tipple, amongst much giggling! :D

We used to go visit as a few of my Dad's shipmates are listed on a memorial there (Lowersoft).

Some nice looking girls there Pete. It's amazing to think those girls have turned into the blood nut chewing grannies who chase Farang around the villages trying to grab a kiss. How the tables have turned.

VS, About the English ability of Voranai...I have seen his video editorials and he does make some mistakes, but his English is better than my Thai and he's still a good writer.

About finger pointing, whos to blame, blah blah blah...we are blaming them just as they blame us all the same. Both sides do not want to accept that they are responsible. Pot & kettle - black.

I think its more important to realise that there is an issue, analyse the issue and correct it. I mean, there will always be prostitution like Voranai says, but eliminating the factor of it being a career for the poor girl from the sticks to get rich and support her family...for the girls that would probably rather get out and would have done something else if there was better education and opportunities.

If you look at the tourist figures for last year, they are interesting. BKK as destination, well down. Pattaya, slightly down. P relies on REPEAT business of two types Sex and Golf tourists.
Both groups are important elements of the Thai economy.
