bore hole cleaning

What exactly do they do when they clean a bore hole? Doesn't the 5-6" PVC piping go all the way down the depth of the bore and remains washed by the pressure of the water being pumped up? I can see pulling out and cleaning the submersible pump every few years though. Pete

Depending on the type of strata, rock, sand , etc., some bores will silt up around the area where the water permeates into the bore hole. Can be a bit "iffy" to try and "clean" it, as it is possible to push the accumulated silt, or whatever it may be, back into the strata and stop the flow altogether. If that happens it is usually necessary to try and drill the hole a bit deeper, or move the location of the pump if there is sufficient space.

An air compressor has been mentioned, and I would caution against using this type of "cleaning", as there is a very good likelihood of doing just what I have mentioned above.
There are tools, such as a simple "slush" pump that can be run, but this usually requires a drilling rig to operate it, or at least an "A" frame and some machine to pull the "pump" up and down on a wire line.
