The UK end of the investigation into the Phuket air disaster has concluded, with some pretty damning reports.
I haven't had chance to search for any online reports - but listened to the coroner on local radio here 2 days ago. The UK coroner, based in Lincolnshire, was tasked with investigating all of the British deaths on that flight, which was operated by what is now One2Go, under the parent company Orient Thai.
The coroner found conclusively that the crash was due to pilot error. Not because the pilots were incompetent - but because they were tired out. He found that flight logs had been blatantly forged, and industry safety codes were ignored.
He had no power to subpoaena Orient Thai/One2Go bosses to appear in the UK, but requested their presence at the hearing, to which they had replied simply 'no'.
Asked by the radio presenter whether the Thai internal air operators involved had improved safety standards as a result of the crash he very adamantly answered 'no', and when asked if he would ever consider taking a Thai internal flight the answer was again a most definite 'no'.
No consolation for the victims' families. Perhaps even worse - no resulting improvement in standards either.
It seems that airline pilots in Thailand are no different to bus and train drivers there.

Good this was moved to News. Let's see if there is anything at all that appears in the Thai press about the UK findings. Your post would make a good letter to Post Bag at the BKP. The way they jump around here though like scalded frogs concerning libel and slander, you'll need some concrete references/links. Pete

Agree with you Pete - there might still be a link to the interview on BBC Radio Humberside. I'm pretty sure it was broadcast on 24/3 but I've never used those media links. It was on the Peter Levy Show during the afternoon.

Here's the link for the 3/24 Peter Levy show. Just click on 'listen now' and the player opens automatically, nothing to download. They seem to only keep shows for 6 days, so 5 left on this one. I haven't listened yet to see if this is the one about our subject here. Pete
