Non immigrant O visa from Glasgow

Post by DSB »

I am thinking of applying for my next non immigrant O visa in Glasgow. during a family visit, do I need to show the correct money in a Thai bank for this?

Usually I have managed to get a visa from Singapore, and they have asked to see my bank statements from a Singapore bank

I've no experience of the Glasgow consulate but funds, either income or savings, only need to be shown in Thailand when you are applying for an annual extension to a Non O visa. The exception to that general rule is when you apply at Embassies or consulates in neighbouring countries to Thailand. Then, as you've experienced, proof of funds will normally be asked for if applying for a Non O, particularly for the multi-entry variety. This shouldn't apply with consulates in the UK.
However, the Hull consulate who, for many years, have been regarded as the most user-friendly mission to get a Non O from are tightening up. The "visiting friends" option has pretty much disappeared now but they do grant the visa if you can show you live here and the normal way is to provide a tenancy agreement or house papers.
If I were you, I'd get in touch with Glasgow to check what they want to see - maybe nothing, but funds shouldn't come into it.
If you're married to a Thai or have a Thai child, then the reason for your Non O visa is to visit family so take a copy of marriage/birth certificate back with you.
Let us know how you get on as we don't have much, if any, information about Glasgow's policies.

Hull now requires proof of funds, proof of tenacy or house papers does not count any more - new rules were issued yesterday. You need to show income of £900 per month or a pension.

Just had a look at the Hull website http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads-and-visas.aspx

Edit:

Download the documents and rename with ending .doc and it opens in Word.

What's the reason for this requirement on the application?

JG - I assume to make sure you can support yourself whilst here.
But that's a major change and thanks for the update, moja. I knew Hull had been under some pressure recently about their policy regarding Non O's but I didn't realise that it had developed to an income stage.
Do you know any more? Ie, can an applicant rely on savings?
And by the sound of things, this edict dosn't apply if you're married to a Thai which the OP could be.

And BTW, this dosn't necessarily apply to Glasgow, so the OP really should check first as to what they want to see.

Any idea what this highlighted in bold is all about?

I'm over 50, not married, living together and have a 4 year old daughter born here. My partner has a sister who lives in Bangkok but is not a full shilling :D

Hull themselves do not seem too sure of the rules yet!!!! So cannot answer about savings but keeping fingers crossed!

No I do not think these rules apply if you are married to a Thai or if you have a close family member living here with a work permit.

JG,
If you're applying for a Non O from a neighbouring country on the basis of marriage then the marriage certificate, a copy of your wife's ID card and a letter from her requesting a visa for you should suffice for a single-entry Non O. All papers should be signed and dated by your spouse.
Basically the issuing mission, even in the UK, is trying to make sure that the marriage is bona fide and ongoing.

I will be going back to the UK in a month or so to do my usual yearly Non O visa.

As I said I'm not married but have a 4 year old daughter here and am living with her mother. Not sure what this proof from a family member is all about!

JG, reading that bold section again, I'd guess that it's designed for say a son or daughter who wants to come to live in Thailand and one of their parents is working here. They've then got to prove that the family relationship is genuine and that the relative is working legitimately. If so, they can get a Non O on the back of their parent's status here.
The parent relationship is just my example.

Jimmy G,
The 'Visiting Family Working / Living In Thailand" is for non-Thai nationals who are visiting their non-Thai national families who work and/or live in Thailand.

There isn't a "Parent of a Thai National but not married to a Thai National" option. It's the same one as 'Married to a Thai National' but it's the birth certificate of your Thai national children you need (in English) instead of a marriage certificate.
You shouldn't need any letters, but it might be useful to have a letter from her mother stating that your daughter will be in Thailand for the period covered by your visa, as Thai Immigration. quite reasonably I would suggest, do not want to give out Non-O visas to non-nationals where the Thai part of the family are not actually in Thailand.
The best thing, as always with Thai officialdom, is to phone them before you leave and ask what they want and how many copies they'll need and then get what they ask for and take a few more things you think might be important but they didn't mention and a few more copies of everything all signed by everybody and with copies of ID cards and passports and visa pages all round as well just to be sure.

Thanks for all the replies, I will get in touch with the Glasgow consulate before I go. I did hear from someone that just the marriage certificate will suffice, but as you all say, the rules keep changing!
