True Visions TV Off

Post by PeteC »

As many of you probably already know, it's been out since 1600 this afternoon and still out as of this posting. Below is a small story from The Nation. Doesn't really say anything though. Maybe aliens stole the satellite? :shock: Pete :cheers:

All TV channels broadcast via Thai Com blacked out

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/Al ... 53641.html

TV channels, including the True Visions subscription TV, went off the air Thursday afternoon.
The TV channels could not be accessed since 4:07 pm.
At press time, they services were still off air.
Thai Com has informed Nation Channel that its satellite up-link station at Kaerai, Nonthaburi, has developed technical errors..

Denial of a possible much bigger problem? All that goes through my mind is this is what happens when you have no competition in business. Pete :cheers:

Thaicom denies Thaicom 5 still on orbital slot

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/home/Th ... 53645.html

Thaicom Thursday issued a statement denying its Thaicom 5 broadcasting satellite had slipped out of its orbital slot.
The statement said the firm has already put the situation under control and was proceeding to make Thaicom resume normal service soon.
It confirmed that Thaicom is still positioned at 78.5 degree east orbital slot.
The glitches had knocked off all satellite TV programmes in Thailand that use Thaicom 5 satellite.

......And another saying it did slip its orbit? The coup rumors sure came up quickly though. :laugh:

UPDATE: All just came back on as typing this. Pete :cheers:

TV blackout 'unrelated' to coup rumours

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... nationwide

* Published: 21/04/2011 at 06:29 PM
* Online news:

The television blackout nationwide on Thursday afternoon was unrelated to coup rumours, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said.

Information and Communications Technology Minister Juti Krairerk said television channels blacked out since 4.07pm today after Thaicom 5 satellite went off its orbit.

Mr Juti said the problem was a technical issue and should be fixed within three hours.

All channels should be back on air at about 8pm, he said.

yeah mate but look who it is spreading the coup roumors.... Jutaporn The Liar... Thailands equivalent of Glenn Beck.

Personally Id be much happier if they just admitted some muppet spilt his bowl of Som Tam down the control panel and the crab juice fritzed the circuits. Face it....you can use the average bowl of Issan strength Som Tam as varnish stripper so imagine what it will do to printed circuit boards :idea:

The broadcast in Bangkok has not been affected, only the satellite service, it seems. So it was not a "Nation Wide" blackout.

I've been watching it all day here in Hua Hin... no outage that I am aware of...
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Apparently so, but they tend to clash with Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Eastenders :? My involvement is recording the Thai soaps so that Mrs BB can watch them when the English soaps. I would not be caught dead watching a Thai soap in the UK.

Everybody knows that the only real soap is Eastenders :oops:

A few more stories this morning that say more or less the same thing as above. In addition though they reveal that this Thaicom satellite is about half way through its expected life, and there is no back up satellite aloft. They now start to plan and talk and form committees and CAT is involved as well as the government. Shades of 3G which probably means this #5 satellite better last much longer than its 12 year life, or we may have a permanent TV blackout. Perhaps really time to investigate True Visions alternatives. Pete :cheers:

Was it all channels, e.g., do they get some programming from different satellites depending on where it's from and what the channel is? I could have sworn I was watching "live" programming during that time but maybe I only watched previously PVR'd stuff.

Or maybe I was watching a blank screen and just imagined there was something on. I did start on the wine at lunch time yesterday... :oops:
