Rugby World Cup 2011 - New Zealand

Post by pharvey »

OK, OK, OK...... way early I know, but I'm like a kid on Christmas Eve!! Details for the ''HHAD RWC 2011'' will follow when available, however just to wet the appetite....

Despite being consistently ranked as the number 1 rugby union side in the world, New Zealand have won the Rugby World Cup (RWC) just the once in it's 24 year history, and that in it's inaugural tournament held in New Zealand in 1987. The tournament returns to New Zealand for the first time since 1987....... could this be the AB's year?

NAH!!! It's ALL Wales!! :thumb: :neener:

Come on, join the league - all a bit of fun....... and you are supporting your country!! :D

I've pre-registered with ''Superbru'' (www.superbru.com) with which HHAD members have played several tournaments over the past 18 months or so. When details are available (July/August), I'll post them here. Basically, there will be a link to follow and a ''Pool Code'' to enter. Simply follow these, provide an email address and you're there!!

Again...... way too early to start this thread, but just too excited

The Super 15 Rugby comp results will have a bearing on the cup as injury lists rise. :|
Still, rugby is religion in the Land of the Wrong White Crowd, the home crowds will have high expectations and ruthless on AB failures. :neener:
Never mind the ball, on with the game!

...minor details. :D

Wish I was there to watch it. I remember '87 I was living about a kilometer from Eden Park and watched the first match. Interestingly, the promoters had concerns about the whole competition not really taking off - wasn't much interest up until the last 6 weeks before the start.

I too am salivating at the prospect. The Ferns will be hard to beat at home though!

Bring it on...

Kalbow, are you the solo token Kiwi supporter for the cup? Will there be 'blackouts' again in Auckland for the matches?

Randy, you jest! :lach:
I do believe the Kiwi Ladies Basketball Team are known as the ' Tall Ferns' but some look they could play rugby. The netball team is known as the 'Silver Ferns'. Irene Van Dyk would make a good No. 3 in the lineout. Yes, the Ferns are hard to beat at home :naughty:

There is no reason in my eyes why the Kiwi Ladies Basketball Team cannot dominate and win the rugby world cup!

If they just lifted up their skirts during the Hakka and had no shreddies on underneath then the opposing pack would crumble due the sight of freshly quaffed lady garden.

Of that there's no doubt... 8)

Jimbob - I guess so, although I left K1W1land 24 years ago I still support The Blackness. I reckon the only blackouts in Auckland will be someone on the end of a Maori 'kiss' in the bottom of a ruck.

In case you're considering venturing to New Zealand to watch a few
games, here are some tips so you can understand the locals:-

RUCK.....abbreviation of Richard

BULL.....what you play the game with

TICKLE...bringing another player to the ground

SICKENED FIVE.....positioned after first 5

AND THUMB.....national song sung before match

PECK.....the eight forwards

BACKS....abbreviation of Rebecca

PASH NUT....love of the game

SKULLS.....ball handling ability

MAUL....where you go shopping

GULL....points scored by kicking

ROUGH....umpire

TROY....worth 5 points

KETCH....receiving the ball

Not having a full understanding of these could guve yoo a problem at Ummigration

(as sent to me by a well meaning Kiwi-Brit).
