Wood Worms
I purchased a timber coffee table from Prachin buri when i was there a few weeks ago,and included in the table are a few what i assume are wood worms, they are eating the lower rail, making small perfect drill size holes, not eating the solid timber parts..yet.
they leave a fine dust on the floor most mornings. So far i have put a dust poison, called chaindrite powder, supposedly kills termites, etc in the holes, chlorine, but still they have not died?
Can anyone offer a good way of removing these little critters?

Re: Wood Worms
Maccastime, nuke the area with Baygon! Seriously, are you sure they're not termites?
Re: Wood Worms
You need Chaindrite Crack and Crevice spray. That seems to get rid of everything and is available in Tesco, Villa Market, Old Shopping Mall etc. Altenatively if you have pest control ask them the spray the table.
Re: Wood Worms
Yes, that Chandrite comes with a spray needle attached so you can insert it into the holes. If it spouts out of the hole, it may take the finish off the piece a bit. What's described above sounds like termites to me, not worms. Take a small metal object and tap along the portion where they are. You can determine how far they have eaten by the difference in a hollow or solid sound. Petemoja wrote:You need Chaindrite Crack and Crevice spray. Re: Wood Worms
Thanks for all replies, maybe you are right, possibly termites,as after posting my comment,a few small critters dropped out of some of the holes. black in colour, small, hard shell, some smaller ones were dead, but a slightly bigger one was still moving about, have now checked the net for photos of wood worm and termites, and now am sure they are termites,as mentioned i have the chaindrite powder, but not too good,so i will take advice and try some spray,if this fails i will remove the lower rail of the table??prcscct wrote:Yes, that Chandrite comes with a spray needle attached so you can insert it into the holes. Re: Wood Worms
Termites, at least the US kind, leave very small balls of waste vs dust.

This will give you everything about wood beetles, including photos of them and their wood holes:

There's a ton of photos sites for termites, just Google for examples. May the force be with you during your upcoming battle!

Re: Wood Worms
The latest with these post beetles..i decidede to remove the bottom shelf rails of the coffee table, and we found a lot of dead ones, and a few still alive, also some small white worms, still moving.maccastime wrote:Thanks for the info, well now i have googled post beetle and well they look more like them, and very similar holes. Now to find a quick fix to destroy them.ste860 wrote:they dont sound like termites they are white ,it sounds more like a post beetle are the hard and the circle/hole about 3-4 mm if so its more than likely that not termites
the beetles were black with a small brown spot on their back. Will keep a close eye on the rest of the table, however hopefully it should be ok,as it is a solid type of timber top and legs.
thanks to all who posted info.
Re: Wood Worms
I've had some experience with these types of beast when we first had our mainly wooden house built in Issan.
Generally they get through new wood but seasoned hardwood defeats them, I suppose it's just too tough for them.
The frame of our house was built out of timbers taken from a house over sixty years old so they have no chance of getting into that but a couple of window frames must have been too soft as they had to be replaced and now the house is about six years old, we don't have a problem anymore.

WD 40. Seriously. It works for woodworm and probably anything else burrowed into wood. Just spray it on. The bugs emerge and get stuck in the sticky spray so it's quite satisfying to watch the results as well!

Re: Wood Worms
Wd 40 well i didnt try that, tried a lot of other sprays etc, even got a small amount of pool acid into a hole, but next day another hole would appear, then on a closer inspection of the timber,i realised they had eaten most of this rail. This morning i have a coffee table with no lower shelf and rail, and no beetles.margaretcarnes wrote:WD 40. I remember years ago, my father used to use parafin to get rid of little beasties in the wood.maccastime wrote:Wd 40 well i didnt try that, tried a lot of other sprays etc, even got a small amount of pool acid into a hole, but next day another hole would appear, then on a closer inspection of the timber,i realised they had eaten most of this rail. This morning i have a coffee table with no lower shelf and rail, and no beetles.margaretcarnes wrote:WD 40.
