Hi everybody. What's the deal at Christmas. Is there any holiday closures. Is it business as usual ?
Just looked at flights and there not actually too bad! It would be great to escape miserable blighty

Well I can't say for sure but I've visited Hua Hin at Christmas for the last eight years and as far as I can remember there haven't been any major closures in December since the elections of 2007.

Elections excepted - (and who knows about that) - HuaHin - and the whole of Thailand - is business as usual for Chrissy. Which for me makes it an ideal place to be.
You get the best of both worlds really - turkey dinner if you want it (or a Scandi feast which can be even better IMO) with the obligatory decorations, and all in a great climate with no need to buy presis either. Perfect. Go for it.
And try to have a look around Bangkok at night - the Christmas trees in Siam Square etc. A trip on the Bangkok Sky Train at night in December is a must.

I have to agree about the Scandi feast. We've gone to one for the last two Christmas Eves over here in Rayong. Beautiful smoked fish and other goodies and not as heavy really as most other western Christmas dinners. If you're lucky a live huge ram will show up dressed in Christmas finery, and paraded around to each table. God bless one and all though if that bugger ever gets loose. I think they put a few valium in his feed before the event. Pete

All booked. Arriving bkk Christmas day for a couple days then down to HH for another eight. Might go back to bkk for New years eve? If anybodys around and fancies a beer give me a shout ! !

Thailand is not, rpt. not a Christian nation. The predominant religion here is Bhuddism.
Many Thai shops and restaurants, especially those catering to tourists, will decorate their businesses with traditional Christmas ornaments (Santa Claus is apparently a universal figure) in order to attract more business.
Shopping hours do remain unchanged from usual Thai hours.

In short... YES , they celebrate Christmas here... it's just not as big as back home. If you're in the jungle here then... NO, they don't celebrate Christmas.

Feck it..... It's the last Christmas before the end of the world (21.12.2012), so where better to spend it?? I'm planning on enjoying it whoever (and wherever) celebrates ......... and by the way LP I'm not a Christian either - to me it's simply a time to enjoy and celebrate friends and family.... fcuk all all wrong with that in my book.
