Are Internet Explorer users dumb?

Post by buksida »

This made me chuckle ...

Are users of other Web browsers smarter than the people who use Microsoft's Internet Explorer?

A new survey doesn't quite say so. But it sure as heck suggests it.

The survey by AptiQuant, a Vancouver-based Web consulting company, gave more than 100,000 participants an IQ test, while monitoring which browser they used to take the test.

The result? Internet Explorer users scored lower than average, while Chrome, Firefox and Safari users were slightly above average.

Thoughts: From a tech standpoint I'd have to agree given the number of warnings about security problems and general computer crashes related to IE. :thumb:

I read a recent article on the BBC about there are millions of people still stubbornly using IE6 and it was a problem to get them to update and use more modern versions of the browser.

So yes, the could be something in that one, ironically.

Yes, they are! :P

I haven't used IE for years. Tried Chrome, Opera and many others and settled on FireFox. The latest couple of releases of FireFox don't play well with my ancient hardware limitations though so I'm slowly trying other, lesser known browsers along with FireFox for comparison (there must be 200 of them out there). I'm currently trying Maxthon and quite like it. It has some built in features that are not found on any other browsers I've tried and is supposedly one of the most secure browsers on the market (rated highly by CNET and users). Works much like FF4 in general (tabs on top, etc.), but since it's relatively unknown it lacks the add-ons that people create for the more popular browsers. So far that's the only disadvantage I've found. It has split screen browsing and you can set up an opening page of a dozen smaller versions (tiles) of frequently used sites to make them easily accessible. It has some good built in tools like a notepad, text translate, screen shot capture (whole screen or user defined area), etc., that are always accessible with one-click buttons at the end of the address bar. :thumb:

If you keep a second browser on your machine for backup or other purposes, I highly recommend this one above others I've tried so far. If you are not addicted to add-ons, you may even like it as your primary browser.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I don't disagree with lots of the posts here, but it seems the story is based on a hoax!

Yep - it was a windup, but a very believable one!

Richard, your machine seems to be constantly 'screwed' even after it has been 'de-screwed' several times! Sure you're not just getting too happy with the mouse and all of those pretty download buttons and links on the web?
