Parcel to Thailand

Hi,

I bought the camera from Japan Yahoo! auction. And now I want to ask my friend in Japan to sent it to Thailand. But I don't no anything about custom rules in Thai. What about custom duty for internetional parcels? May be something is prohibited to import? If somebody have some experience in this field, please tell about it.

I guess it is a second hand camera BitBum? Which I think will make a difference - but still parcels going in to Thailand are always IMO a bit risky.
I don't think you need to worry so much about customs duty if it is second hand (but having said that there can be import duty on mundane second hand goods which are shipped in) - but there is always the risk that, whatever contents and value are declared on the label, the parcel might 'go missing' simply because it will look and feel like a camera sized object, and any scan will of course show up the electronics.
It won't be a 'prohibited' import - it's a personal item and not illegal - but the sad thing is just security of any ingoing post.
Maybe your friend could send it by DHL or some other courier instead?

Yes, whenever I have ordered something from a company, so that by the packaging and value declaration they can tell it's new I've had to pay (sometimes large) duty charges, but when I buy something and have it sent to a friend, they repackage it in an old box or envelope and mark used with a small value, I've never had to pay.

Can send via EMS so signature required and tracking available for better safety. I had a repaired dental plate sent to me from U.S. dentist and they valued it at its replacement value of $1,500. Sure enough when it got to Thailand they wanted 50,000 baht customs to receive it. I refused to pay it and told them to return it to sender. Two months later after continually calling them, they finally returned it to sender. Had a friend pick it up and bring it to me then.

So if my friend will pack used camera into simple box without any logos, write the value 100$ and send it by EMS, everything will be ok?)

Another workaround is to have documentation sent with the item that it has been repaired (under guarantee) and is simply being returned - this has worked for people I know.
