Chinese create Macao/Las Vegas in Golden Triangle area

This is pretty amazing. The news story is over a month old but I just ran across it while searching for something else... a new border run destination perhaps?

Have a read of this if you want to know what China is up to in Laos, almost on the quiet, as I hadn't realised they had spread their influence into Northern Laos in such an overt way.

Talks about how the Chinese have 'leased' towns for gambling/rubber plantations and huge prostitution 'red light' areas too as all this is, of course, illegal in China. Seems the Lao government has been actively encouraging it all and selling farmers land without their knowledge etc, Lao people being given $800 dollars by the Chinese businessmen and then told to just 'go away' with the threat of arrest if the plant rice again.

Seems to be mainly only Chinese in these areas at the moment, how long that will be the case once it gets out that it's an 'anything goes' area, is anyone's guess.

Funny how pious the Lao government is on 'entertainment' everywhere else in their country only to do the hypocrite double standards routine for the Chinese in places out of the limelight, how predictable and soulless.

Worth a read really as it's obviously not being reported too much.
