Fame?

Post by dtaai-maai »

I clicked the wrong news item on Yahoo and wound up on a twittery gossip thing involving a whole host of famous UK tv personalities I'd never heard of like Amy Childs, Jedward, Bobby Sabel, Dermot and Kerry Katona. Most of them seem to be famous just for being famous, which seems quite a remarkable achievement in itself to me.

It just struck me as an unforeseen advantage of prolonged absence from home, where it is probably difficult to avoid this sort of unwanted information infiltrating your daily life.

Can those of you who are still in your home country remind me of other reasons for being grateful that I'm so far from what was once home?

The last time I was in the UK,June last year,I was unfortunate enough to see some fly on the wall documentary about Pineapple Dance Studios,I think Jedward was in that. The problem is that the brain dead viewing public love it. The other "novacaine for the brain" show is The Jeremy Kyle Show featuring Trailer trash Chavs airing their petty lives on air. That was good enough reason for me to abandon annual trips back to Great(yeah right....) Britain.

The other good news is that Yorkshire is still clinically "brain dead"......... :naughty:

One thing that amazed me when I had to spend a bit of time in the UK a couple of years ago was the fact that people actually bet on these celebrity TV talent show things.
When I was last living back there, the window of Ladbrookes had the odds for the 2.30 at Chepstow or whatever but now it has stuff for these TV programmes.
I don't know if you can study 'form' for them like those guys that hang around Newmarket at dawn with binoculars!

Fame? DM, it's taken over from 'real' news. I was in the UK a couple of months ago and bought a newspaper to catch up on the news. It was total and utter trash. Celebs took the front page, while a riot or some disaster outside the UK had a few column inches on page 4.

It's no wonder.....

Reality TV has a lot to answer for - Big brother in particular. At least with most of the talent shows there's an element of ability involved, like it or not, but the Big Brother format is no better than chimps in a zoo.

Reality TV???...bit of a misnomer.

Ben Elton's 2007 novel Blind Faith,2006 Chart Throb and 2001's Dead famous hilariously chart peoples obsession with fame.

Unfortunately we have a lot of people here in the states famous, for just being famous.

This past week, one of the biggest news items was the marriage (prep and honeymoon too) of Kim Kardashian.

She and her sisters have no talent, but are famous, and rich, for for... I don't know what!

Her Father was lead attorney for OJ Simpson, the famous football player found innocent of murder
She did a sex tape
Now her and her 2 sisters have a "reality show", clothing, etc :banghead: :banghead:

Migrant....Unless the great viewing public vote with their remote control buttons and turn off this "tosh TV" we will be subjected to this crap.

I myself have cancelled UBC and now download quality TV/Movies from the States and UK to watch at my leisure.

Yes, I can't believe how much of this crap is now on TV. I guess it's cheap to produce, but I (as a TV junkie) can not watch it. I still watch the original reality program, "Survivor" and the music program "American Idol", but only when it is down to the last 16 or so... the rest is pure poop! :|
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Yes, you don't need it. Due to my job, I've spent rather too much of the last twenty years living in airport hotels with the only TV channels available in English being either 24 hour news channels or MTV so consequently I don't watch much TV.
I don't like modern music much so I'll either go down the pub tonight or stay in and watch the hurricane!

I don't watch much TV, other than news, movies and some documentaries. Living in Southern California, about 17 miles from Hollywood, anything with entertainment is big news though.

But people must love it, the channels seem to be filled with it.

It will be interesting to see, maybe 10 years from now, when the novelty wears off. I'm sure these egotistical, self absorbed, imbeciles with bathwater IQ's will be off the TV, hawking their designer clothes on the corner, and living out of shopping carts!!

I, for one, will be pleased to help them out by donating some of the glossy crap magazines they appear in so they can wipe their a** with it.

Im in the uk now and these tv shows have taken over popular tv.

I used to watch a lot of tv, but now hardly ever watch it (come on here quite a lot at the moment).

Every week there's a new 'celebrity' on tv and in the papers. After a couple of months most are pushed to one side to make way for another.

I think they probably have clever agents and publicists who are out to make the celebs and themselves as much cash as quickly as they can, knowing full well that some of the celebs dont have the talent for a long term career.

Everyone must make their own minds up, I guess. :)
