Retiral Visa Renewal

Post by sjpthsuk »

Looking for some guidance with regards the renewal process.

I still work outside of Thailand, and just about to take up a new position in Canada, but will return every now and again with my Thai wife.
What are the rules regarding renewal - do i need to be in the country for a specific amount of time, or can i fly in the week before and go along an renew?

Any info would be very helpful

If you are talking about an O-A visa for reason of retirement, the answers are on the last page of this thread...

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Assuming you're talking about annual extensions of stay then you only have to be here to do so before the current one runs out. You can apply within the last 30 days of any entry.
If you miss that boat, then you'll be back to square one and have to get another Non Imm O visa and start the process again.

Yes an annual extension
Looks like i'm screwed then because i'll only be in the country a few days before it expires, and they will give me 90days on entry and i'll only be here for 3weeks.
Might have to see if i can convert to a marriage visa...
Thanks for the info.

I don't understand why he's screwed. If he arrives a few days before it expires why can't he renew and get another one year extension?

Hold on. If you've got an extension and are arriving back here with a re-entry permit, you won't get 90 days. You'll simply be stamped in until your extension expires be that in 6 months or 6 days. So, it sounds like you'll be OK. You'll just have to get your financial stuff sorted out before expiration/renewal and that dosn't take long. I started mine yesterday in BKK at the British Embassy getting my income letter and am already back at home with my year's extension from HH this morning.
You have mentioned this 90 days though so I need to ask if it is the annual extension you've got rather than a multi-entry Non Imm O visa which would give you 90 days on entry?
From your post above, I reckon you'll be OK.
Homer's beaten me to it.

Apologies for delay in responding, i'm 4hrs ahead at the moment so just finishing work.

I have a Multi-entry Non Imm O Re-entry permit - got it issued at HH on 17th January 2010 and says it expires 6th-February. Already have a Thai account with more than the required 800,000 so the money is covered and been there for a couple of years now. Marriage cert. and Yellow Book are also available.

Is it worth popping along to speak with the Immigration people when i'm back in October?

As stated before, your multiple re-entry permit will get you stamped in until your annual extension expires. The two run together.
So, I assume that your annual extension expires on 6th Feb 2012?
If you're not returning here after this October, I think you'll have trouble with extending again when there are around 4 months left. It's certainly worth trying and a confirmed ticket out will help your case. Unfortunately, I don't rate your chances but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
If you're outside of Thailand in February 2012, then your extension and re-entry permit will lapse. It's not the end of the world though as all you'll need to do is get by on another non O visa (which you may not be able to extend depending on your work itinery) or even tourist visas or 30 day visa exempt stamps until you're more settled here.

Maybe i didn't make things clear above, my plans were to come back mid/late January to do the renewal as this new job only gives me 3 leaves per year. Just trying to find out if that would present a problem, or did i need to be in Thailand for say a month before renewing.
Looks like if i come in in January i'm only entitled thru' February 5th and might be able to get my extension then.
