Plumbing Shop

Post by Jlvs »

I'm new to Hua Hin and wondered if anyone can suggest a good plumbing shop. I've tried HomePro, but they don't seem to have what I need. I'm looking for a 2" tank float valve, some 3/4" unions, etc.

I've found those types of things at the smaller Thai hardware stores. It's difficult, and easier if you can bring an old part to show them so than they know exactly what you need. One of the best I've found is on the Pala'u road about halfway up the hill on the right side. There is a hardware complex there in the same large building that contains two hardware stores and a lumber/cement store.

The largest hardware store in the middle of that complex also has a stack of catalogs of items that are orderable (delivered in about 3 days) from Bangkok. I have used them in the past to order many parts and other home or construction items and they are reliable and reasonably priced compared to other stores (like HomePro) in the area.

2" float valve? Never seen one! Most common around either 1/2" or 3/4".
Maybe you mean a "foot valve"? or "check valve"?

If you need to change the float ball try to get one made from a solid block of polystyrene as they are longer lasting than the hollow plastic (or copper) types which sometimes leak and then by not floating on the surface cause tanks to overflow.

Yes, that`s what I meant. Used to have big sizes like that on outback cattle station water troughs, and also some industrial types, but unlikely to find in a small hardware shop in Hua Hin.

HHF is spot on with the fabulous shop on the Pala U road. It's on the right-hand side as you leave Hua Hin and, I believe, it's painted bright yellow. It's an Aladdin's cave for DIY stuff, and the staff are extremely helpful, as well as letting you wander (without interferring) down the narrow isles to find what you want.
