A week ago several of us got together for a round of golf at Dolphin Bay. Normally this is the cheapest golf in Patchburi or Prachuap provinces as it is just 30 baht for 9 holes or as many as you want to play. You just pay 30 baht for the use of pull cart.
When we finished that lady who collected the money for the carts demanded an additional 100 baht from each of us four to 'pay for gas'. Maybe she has dreams of becoming a policeman or a member of parliament.
Has this ever occured when you went to Dolphin Bay?

Re: Golf Dolphin Bay charges
Never asked me for anything other than a voluntary donation. Is it the same woman who's been running the shop for years? I had heard that she and her husband (who cares for the course) were retiring. If that's the case, maybe the new caretakers are trying to make an extra hundred from farangs. I doubt if Thais are asked to pay.
The system before was that you could make a donation to the maintenance of the course but that was entirely voluntary and if you did your name was listed on the board as a donor. They gave me their last (master) scorecard one time a couple of years ago when I asked for one so my donations after that have been to make a couple of hundred copies of that card to give them each time I've played.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Thanks for that info hhfarang. generally we find that the 'lady' attempts to pocket all change but this was 1st time outright demand. I may try to go up the ladder with this if there is a second try.
PS: I know well that you were not being disrespectful about the 'poppies'. Come over to my other place for a smoke and joke any time you want.

Went there 2 days ago after a long absence.
Asked to pay and was also told 30 b for the trolley and 100 b to use the course.
Asked in Thai when had they introduced green fees as I'd never been asked for this before.
The woman and her husband then replied that it wasn't mandatory, just a suggestion to help with the upkeep of the course
So the answer is that it's still free to play, but 30 b for the trolley - unless you want to contribute - we usually give them 100 baht each including trolley, but the state of the course has deteriorated considerably since the last time we went there.

Thanks for the info Barry. Now I do not feel it was just our group singled out.
