Are you selling your property in Thailand?

Post by PeteC »

There have more posts than usual about people selling their homes, or wanting to. Perhaps it's just a coincidence that I noticed these posts not far apart from each other, or perhaps it's a trend? If you're selling, tell us what motivated you? Maybe you're purchasing up, economizing, or leaving the country? Pete

PS: For those departing Thailand, please don't leave the forum as well. Let us know where you go and what you're doing.

Well I voted No since I have no intention of leaving. Despite all its faults, Thailand still, in my opinion, allows one more freedom. Hell, I hated school because of all the rules and regulation, but that was nothing compared to every day life in most western countries nowadays. I honestly don't think I could live in my own country again, and I seriously doubt I could live in the UK again, or any other European country for that matter.

I guess I've just got used to the idea of being able to go to the toilet without first needing a permit or license, or without first having to pay a toilet tax, and that to use a toilet with CCTV...lol.

To me, most western countries are, for lack of a better term, prison states.

Voted yes, but only because I need to to fund the next one. Despite all its faults there's nowhere I'd rather be and I have no intention of "going home" - this is home!

Nope, but feel like the country is taking two steps back for every one forward lately.

Everywhere has problems but on balance I still love it here and would hate to have to move.

Overall Thailand suits me really well.

The rate Hua Hin is growing the net inflow still well exceeds the outflow, although I guess every time someone / somewhere is moving on to pastures new.

We bought a small place out of town a few years back as a holiday/rental property. We went in very green, but have been incredibly lucky - great neighbours and great friends. basically, we have a full time resident who is a good friend, and a permanent neighbour who is also a great friend.

There is no way we are selling!!

I'm surprised we've not yet had any of the "typical" replies, such as.............

Yes I'm selling up because Hua-Hin is no longer the sleepy little fishing village it once was

or......

Yes I'm selling up because Hua-Hin is attracting the wrong sort of expat nowadays

We're selling but to downsize. Probably won't leave Thailand as my wife wants to be near her family, but may move to a cheaper place to live than Hua Hin. Of particular interest, I read an article in the (U.S.) news about the best cities to retire abroad on a budget and Chiang Mai came in at number 1.

If we do sell we will probably build a bungalow up in Issan where my wife wants to live post me and then rent in a bigger city (like Chiang Mai) for instance because of my needs for western food, an airport, and good medical care, but spend maybe 3 months a year in the Issan home. There's certainly nothing tying me to Hua Hin
because Hua-Hin is no longer the sleepy little fishing village it once was
:D
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
